Chapter 469
Jared dropped Agnes off at the Pritchard family’s mansion.
Once the car stopped, it was dead silent inside.
Jared pulled out a cigarette, lit it, then immediately snuffed it out.
Then he asked, “Do you want me to stay with you tonight?”
Agnes shook her head.
After a day of confusion, Agnes actually felt a bit clearer,
In a way, they were already divorced.
Jared had only been staying with her these past few days out of old affection.
But without Jared, Agnes might not have made it through these days.
“Thank you, but no need, Jared. From now on, we each… need to take care of ourselves.” Agnes said.
Agnes knew it well.
Since Jared had proposed a divorce agreement, it meant he had adjusted his mindset.
If it weren’t for her father’s sudden death, they might have had no more ties.
Jared’s voice was also calm, “Then you should go in, take good care of yourself.”
Agnes nodded, “You too.”
Agnes didn’t expect she could talk to Jared so calmly.
After their divorce, it seemed like they both took a step back, becoming both strangers and familiar.
Agnes got out of the car, taking one step at a time forward.
This too shall pass.

She clenched her teeth.
But she really couldn’t hold on much longer.
She didn’t want to leave Jared.
She didn’t want to live alone in this world.
She lost her mom, and now her dad.
She felt like she had lost everything.
Agnes‘ shoulders began to tremble.
Jared’s eyes were filled with Agnes‘ retreating figure.
He finally lit a cigarette.
If she looked back, just one glance, he would rush to her without hesitation.
But she didn’t.
He had to leave.
It was his promise to his father.
These days, staying by her side was his father’s last concession, almost wrested by him threatening to give up the Tim Group.
But he couldn’t stay with her any longer.
As Agnes said, their history was like a long river, they could only watch each other’s backs moving further and further away.
If she would look back at him, even if it meant jumping into the river, he would strive to get closer to her.
But she was the one who kept letting go of his hand.
It made him feel utterly desperate.
After Agnes went upstairs, Jared’s car stayed at the gate for a long time.
The Pritchard family’s mansion was huge.
But the whole house was empty.
Agnes laid on the bed, curling up.
She imagined when she was little, lying in her mom’s arms.
The world was too dark, too lonely.
She didn’t know what her next step should be.
Alyssa’s suicide, her tarnished reputation, was this her just deserts?
Did she need to dig up the past?
She managed to keep the Starlight International Group and the Pritchard family’s house.
But what was the point?
