When Mr. and Mrs. Stuart come back, the house is quiet.
“Sir, madam, you are back.” The butler comes and says in a low voice.
Mrs. Stuart asks, “Rachel hasn’t come home today?
The butler glances upstairs, “The young lady came back, but she seemed unhappy, and locked herself in her bedroom, not looking very well.”
Mrs. Stuart hears and wants to go to her bedroom to look at her.
“I have to ask the girl what's the matter. Anything happened with Thomas Grey?”
“Madam…” the butler says, “it’s not convenient now.” the butler coughs, “Mr. Grey comes over not long after the young lady goes in.”
Mrs. Stuart is stunned.
Mr. Stuart sighs and sits aside to read newspaper.
It's supposed to be nothing.
“Don't worry, it's just a little quarrel. It's not a big deal. It's not bad to have a little quarrel now, so they won't have to fight again after they get married...you know our daughter's temper. If that girl finds out that she and Thomas Grey are not right for each other and she wants to get divorce. That will be a big trouble.”
“How could I don’t worry about her. Are you not worried? You must have seen what Tommy has done these days. Isn't he doing everything he can for Rachel? And if they still have a quarrel, it must because of Rachel.”
Mr. Stuart doesn’t retort, because he agrees with her.
“How long have they been up there?” Mrs. Stuart asks the butler.
