Chapter 269 A Decoration
Nathan gazed at her intently, nodding in agreement with her.
Although he hadn’t been able to watch Liam grow up, he could tell Olivia was dedicated to the boy’s education.
Moreover, Liam was quite smart, picking up on anything quite quickly.
Olivia flashed a faint smile wordlessly before dropping her gaze to her laptop screen
For a moment, the two of them fell silent, not knowing that to say.
An inexplicable sense of awkwardness hung heavily in the air.
Just as Olivia was beginning to feel uneasy, her phone rang with a call from King.
Upon seeing the caller ID, Nathan frowned and shifted his gaze to Olivia.
Why is King calling me at this hour?
Subconsciously, Olivia glanced at him, looking away immediately upon meeting his dark eyes. Then, she rose, took her phone, and walked to the side.
Nathan’s gaze followed her movements, and she found it hard to ignore.
Forcing herself to not pay him any attention, she answered the phone.
King’s gentle voice rang out on the other end of the phone. “Why did it take you so long to answer the call?”
“Nothing. I’ve been busy.” Even though he couldn’t see her, Olivia still managed to squeeze out a faint smile.
“Are you home?” King asked again
Olivia hummed in response then swiftly changed the subject, asking, “How’s the situation at headquarters?”
“We’re still in the process of dealing with it. There’s no outcome yet.
Behind her, Nathan watched her quietly.
While she was on the phone with King, she behaved differently from the aloof demeanor she displayed around him. Her │expression was much more animated. She’d sometimes frown and sometimes smile.
Even her gaze softened considerably.
She acted as if he didn’t exist at all.
Nathan’s eyes narrowed with displeasure. Is her relationship with King really just professional?
He tried listening in to their conversation, but her voice was so soft that he couldn’t hear it. The only thing he could vaguely discern was something about a watch.
“Are you wearing the watch 1 gave you?”
They were initially discussing business matters when King suddenly asked that question. It took Olivia a moment to process, but then she chuckled lightly and said, “Not yet.”
“Why aren’t you wearing it?”
“I don’t have the right clothes to match the watch, Olivia casually came up with an excuse.
The main reason was that the watch was too expensive, and she couldn’t find the right time to use it.
