Chapter 228 

After the thought of divorce had taken root, Lily spent most of her time in a daze, only feeling truly engaged when she was absorbed in her work. 

At that moment, she couldn’t focus on a word Maryanne was saying, her mind consumed with the fact that Terence had helped her get into Lupler. 

Maryanne had no idea about Terence’s connection to Lapler, so Lily decided to ask him directly the next time they met. 

Two hours later, Lily completed a series of tests and retuned to the doctor’s office, where she held her blood test results and ultrasound report. 

“You have a hormonal imbalance, which is causing your irregular menstruation,” the gynecologist said after quickly glancing at the results. 

He picked up the ultrasound report, examined it further, and asked, “Are you married?” 

Lily nodded. “Yes, but we’ve always used contraception.” 

“Have your stress levels been particularly high lately? Are you dealing with a lot?” The gynecologist observed her complexion closely. “Yes,” Lily replied, lightly touching her cheek. Even though she saw her face every day, she could tell she looked more haggard recently. 

The gynecologist wrote out a prescription. “It’s not a serious issue. You just need to manage your stress, try to relax, and take some herbal medicine. It won’t harm your body, and even if you were to get pregnant unexpectedly, it wouldn’t affect the baby_” 

Lily tuned out the last part, and her mind went elsewhere. She picked up the two boxes of pills from the pharmacy and left the hospital with Maryanne, carrying the medication bag 

“How about we grab a bite? Maryanne linked her arm with Lily’s, reluctant to let go. “It’s been so long since we’ve had a meal just the two of us.” 

Though Terence had a gentle temperament, he valued rules, so Maryanne had learned to temper her behavior around him. 

Thinking of Hazel at home, Lily didn’t want to go back.“Sure. Let’s walk down the street and get something to eat.” 

Despite the cold, her thick jacket kept her warm, and holding hot food while strolling down the lively street brought a sense of comfort. Maryanne parked round the comer, and the two got out of the car, holding hands like they had back in college, chatting and looking for food. 

The street was brightly lit, alive with the sounds and smells of street food, packed with mostly university students. 

When they reached the end of the street, their hands were full of snacks. They settled on a bench, bundled up in their thick jackets, eating and chatting happily. “Terence’s back, so I’m free now,” Maryanne said, sipping her milk tea. “I was hoping we could spend more time together, but work always gets in the way for you. 

Lily leaned back on the bench, holding a baked potato and gazing at the starry sky. “I used to envy you so much, always wondering–did I really have to be a housewife forever? 

“I used to tell myself that marrying a man like Xavier, someone so outstanding, and giving up work for him, was worth it. But now, I think having a career is pretty 

To this day, Lily still thought highly of Xavier. It was just a shame that he didn’t love het. 

“If you think it’s good, then I support you,” Maryanne said, “I hope you become an amazing designer. When you do, I’ll be your little follower, and I’ll always be your friend.” 

She handed Lily a cup of milk tea and leaned against her shoulder.
