“Fine! I’ll wait and see how you impress me!” Xavier’s thin lips parted as he enunciated each word deliberately. “Don’t blame me for disregarding our marria 

catch you taking shortcuts again.” 

Mamage? He tumed around and left. His silhouette radiated an unwavering resolve. Did that look like someone who still cared about their marriage? 

It was clear his anger stemmed from her disobedience and her refusal to yield to his wishes. 

Lily couldn’t bring herself to dwell further on his attitude toward Sarah. The way he treated Sarah alone was enough to plunge her into a torment she couldn’t 

escape. 

“Lily!” Hazri suddenly appeared out of nowhere, running up to her and stamping her foot in frustration. “What’s wrong with you, child? Why did you and Xavier fall out again?” 

It was obvious she had been secretly watching them for quite a while. She ignored Lily’s reddened eyes and the fact that Xavier’s attitude was anything but conciliatory during the conversation earlier. 

“He comes to talk, and I’m just supposed to take and do whatever he says?” Lily turned around and walked toward the complex 

Hazel followed suit. “He had lowered himself to come to you. What are you still dissatisfied about? Do you think you’re God? Are you still hoping to escape from his grasp? Even if you’re preg- 

“Mom” Lily couldn’t listen any longer. Hazel’s words instantly transformed the grievance Xavier had caused her into anger. 

“You’re right. I’m useless. How could I ever think of escaping him? I should go back with him and let him do whatever he wants with me. Should I still thank him for the extra days of pity when he’s had enough with me and kicked me aside?” 

All her emotions were considered petty in Hazel’s eyes 

“It’s normal to have conflicts in marriage. If there’s a way 

way to reconcile, why not rake it? What are you trying to…” 

Lily stormed oft, entering the building and choosing to walk the stairs instead of entering the elevator. 

Hazel couldn’t climb the stairs due to the bad condition of her legs. She stood at the staircase with her hands on her hips as she scolded, “Your dad was right. You’re as stubborn as a mule!”
