“Let Lily advance? Gloria blurted out. Her tone was so shocked as it Xavier’s words were utterly ridiculous. 

“why?” Xavier asked Indifferently. “Is there a problem?” 

“I thought you would be furious that there’s something shady happening with Lily’s competition and wanted to expose her,” Sarah said while holding onto her 

evidence” 

She had made the phone call because she assumed he would want to see it. In her mind, having Xavier expose Lily would be a greater blow to Lily than if she did it 

“Lily is my wife. I want her to submit to me, not to destroy her,” Xavier said. 

Although Xavier didn’t understand design, he knew the rules of the Industry. It didn’t matter if the insider scandal was true. Once it was exposed, Lily could never hope to have a chance to work in the industry ever again. 

It her identity as his wife were to become public in the future, it would drag the Fulton family into disgrace as well. 

Deep down, he hadn’t given much thought about their upcoming cooling–off period. He always felt that they would never divorce. 

“Handle it and wait for my instructions,” Xavier said. He realized he needed to see Lily while he helped her. 

Xavier had wanted to see if she could still keep her resolve. His endless testing of Lily was nothing more than his self–esteem at play. He couldn’t accept that his once–obedient wife had suddenly become so rebellious. 

Lily wasn’t the type to engage in petty arguments, especially at a time like this when she was at a disadvantage. 

She didn’t bother arguing with Sarah. She went downstairs and casually tossed the envelope Gloria had given her into her suitcase. She then grabbed her luggage to Trave 

Lily had no intention of opening the envelope. 

She retrieved her phone from the reception and when she tumed it on, a flood of messages and missed calls came flooding in. 

The last message was from Maryanne, saying she and Terence were waiting for her in the basement parking lot. 

Lily ignored the other messages while she packed her tablet and laptop away, and she headed straight for the parking lot. 

A rush of cold air hit her as she stepped out of the elevator into the basement level. Having broken away from the oppressive atmosphere in the hotel, the air felt refreshing here. 

Wrapped in a houndstooth scarf, Lily looked small and fragile as she huddled inside her black puffer jacket. Her ponytail bung messily over her shoulder. 

A dim light from behind cast her in a shadowy silhouette. Terence’s SUV approached, and as he watched the small, thin woman standing there, his grip on the steering wheel tightened. 

“Terence, she doesn’t seem well. Is she… are things not okay?” Maryanne asked, immediately noticing that something was off with Lily. 

“Believe in her. Don’t ask about the results. You just need to help her relax,” Terence said in a low voice. 

The car stopped in front of Lily as he finished speaking, Maryanne flashed an “okay” gesture and got out.
