Xavier's dark gaze and sullen expression made Xyla forget to cry or whine. Even the tears on her face seemed to freeze in place.
"Ms. Lynde, please follow us!"
Heaving a sigh of relief, the police immediately demanded Sarah's presence at the police station.
The hope in Sarah's eyes dwindled and eventually vanished.
She walked up to Xavier and asked, "Do you not believe me?"
He glanced at her. "Why does it matter?"
"Of course it does!" she blurted out. "All your thoughts and decisions matter a lot to me!"
Remembering that Sarah hadn't denied Bruce's claim that she was also in love with him, Xavier felt uneasy.
He'd never expected her, a work partner he'd meticulously groomed and trusted, to actually have romantic feelings for him. Their relationship was supposed to be strictly professional.
"The truth matters most to me," he replied coldly, promptly turning around and ignoring her.
Sarah's heart sank.
She knew even though Bruce's false accusations were clarified, they could never go back to how things were in the past—her feelings for Xavier had been exposed.
But as long as Xyla was still around, there was no way he could cut ties with her. She still had a chance!
"I'll cooperate. Let's go," Sarah said, exiting the ward.
The police trailed after her, leaving Xyla and Xavier alone in the ward.
It was until then that Xyla finally snapped back to her senses. She sprang to her feet and was about to dash out when Xavier stopped her.
