Xavier said nothing, while Lily also stayed quiet.
Shane was stunned for a few seconds before he recovered and said, "Mom, I'm going to send Tamara back to the company."
Edith breathed in deeply. It was frustrating to have a son like Shane. She turned to look at Xavier. But it was even more frustrating to see Xavier standing still like a log while his wife was bedridden.
Maryanne couldn't stand the awkward situation any longer and spoke up, "Mrs. Fulton Senior, I can look after Lily. I'll be sure to take good care of her."
Edith appreciated Maryanne's kindness. "Sweet girl, you're not the best person for the job. If your parents found out, what would they think of us?"
How could the Fultons leave Lily to be in the hospital by herself?
Maryanne found it difficult to go against Edith's concerns. She shot a questioning glance at Lily.
Lily said calmly, "Mary, Terence, thank you for dropping by today. The both of you can leave first."
Maryanne wanted to say more but refrained from doing so. Terence gestured for her to start packing up. "We'll come again tomorrow," he said to Lily.
The siblings said their goodbyes to the Fultons before leaving the ward.
Maryanne had an irritated look on her face as she complained, "Can that damn hound even take care of her properly? It's more likely that he'll lose control and take a big bite out of her!
"Mrs. Fulton Senior and the rest of the family too! Xavier's already mistreated Lily so much, yet they still want to keep her around? They must be out of their minds to think Lily wants to stay.
"Whenever Xavier the Hound is around, Lily doesn't say a thing or smile. The only thing she hasn't done is hold back her tears! Terence, what do you think we should do?"
Maryanne couldn't help herself. She aired her grievances as they made their way to the car.
Terence remained silent. But as he started up the engine, his chest was filled with a storm of emotions. He felt hurt, troubled, and helpless. He was frustrated by the complicated situation.
"Maryanne, as long as Lily is still married to Xavier, the Fultons have the right to care about her. Even if they're not doing it to convince her to stay, they have to since she's Xavier's lawfully wedded wife."
It was clear that the Fultons all had a heart, except for the one that Lily had married. Xavier was a heartless man.
