Marsha's hand lingered on the car door handle as she hesitated and glanced back at Charles, feeling slightly uneasy.
"Uh, maybe you should rest at my place before heading out?" she proposed.
Driving while being so tired was risky. Although she didn't have strong feelings for Charles, she didn't want anything bad to happen to him, especially after he had given her a ride home. It didn't feel appropriate to let him drive off in such a state.
Hazel's eyes sparkled with excitement as she swiftly opened the car door and stepped out. Could she actually be in on such a conversation?
Charles looked over at Marsha, a teasing grin forming on his face. "Ms. Newton, you're interested in my handsome features. You should've just admitted it," he joked.
"Ouch!" He winced as Marsha grabbed his ear and gave it a sharp twist.
"I'm giving you a chance to rest because you look like you're on the verge of collapse. If you keep spouting nonsense, I'll twist this ear clean off," she threatened, clearly irritated.
This man never had anything sensible to offer when he spoke.
Charles grabbed his ear, which Marsha was firmly twisting, and begged, "Please let go! It hurts!"
It was unbelievable. Never before in his life had anyone twisted his ear. Not even his father had resorted to that. The worst he had faced was a spanking.
Marsha, however, was relentless and cut to the chase. "Are you going to sleep or not?" She felt her kindness was being exploited.
Today, she was resolute in getting her way. Charles was going to bed, whether he wanted to or not. She couldn't risk being held accountable if anything happened to him.
Realizing she wasn't joking, Charles promptly relented. To spare his ear, he hurriedly agreed, "Okay, okay. I'll do it."
Only then did Marsha loosen her hold, emit a frosty snort, and proceed to open the car door.
