Chapter 25
Adam leaned back in his office chair, his fingers drumming impatiently on the desk. The news of him suing Brenda had taken over the headlines, making his already tense workplace even more unbearable.
His employees avoided him, whispering in corners, while the media camped outside the company building like vultures circling their prey.
He didn’t care. Not one bit. If anything, the chaos fueled his resolve. Brenda needed to pay for what she’d done.
“Sir, your lawyer is here,” his assistant announced, peeking nervously into the room.
“Send him in,” Adam replied curtly. He had employed the service of another lawyer. He needed a way out of this mess. Eric wasn’t giving him what he wanted.
The lawyer, a middle-aged man with sharp features and a calculating gaze, entered and placed his briefcase on the desk.
“Adam,” he began, pulling out some documents. “I’ve reviewed everything, and while we can sue Brenda for defamation of character, there’s a significant hurdle.”
Adam frowned, leaning forward. “What hurdle?”
The lawyer adjusted his glasses. “Her claim about carrying your child complicates things. If she’s indeed pregnant with your baby, it could weaken our case. The court may see her actions as emotional rather than malicious.”
Adam let out a humorless laugh. “Pregnant with my child?” He shook his head. “That’s a lie. I’m almost certain she lost the baby when she was rushed to the hospital. Brenda’s just manipulating me.”
The lawyer raised an eyebrow. “Do you have proof she’s lying about the pregnancy?”
