Her Husband's Secret Affair novel Chapter 28

Chapter 28

Sophie almost collided with someone as she stepped into Alex’s office. The woman, dressed in a fitted pencil skirt and a silk blouse, paused to give Sophie a deliberate once-over, her gaze traveling from Sophie’s shoes to her face.

Without a word, the woman lifted her chin, brushed past her, and disappeared down the hallway.

Sophie frowned, turning to glance back at the woman. “Who does she think she is?” she muttered to herself before stepping fully into Alex’s office.

Alex was lounging comfortably in his sleek swivel chair, scrolling through something on his tablet.

The moment his eyes met hers, he smirked and muttered, “What’s my girlfriend doing here?”

Sophie couldn’t help but laugh. “I had to pull that card to get past your guard dog out there. She wouldn’t let me in without an appointment.”

Alex arched a brow, leaning back in his chair. “Wow, I almost questioned myself there. Do I have a girlfriend I don’t know about?”

Sophie smirked, but her curiosity was piqued. “Speaking of girlfriends, who was that woman who just left?”

Alex glanced at her with mild amusement. “My secretary. Why?”

Sophie raised an eyebrow. “She doesn’t look like a secretary. She looks like a girlfriend—a jealous one, at that. Are you sure she doesn’t have… extra responsibilities?”

Alex chuckled, shaking his head. “You’ve got quite the imagination. Trust me, she’s just my secretary. Jealous? Maybe. But girlfriend? Absolutely not.”

Sophie crossed her arms, clearly unconvinced. “Alright, if you say so.”

Alex gestured to the chair across from him. “Why don’t you have a seat and tell me why you’re really here? I’m guessing it’s not just to interrogate my staff.”

Sophie took the seat, adjusting her dress as she settled in. “I came to talk about work. I need to know when I’m starting.”

“Fair enough.” Alex nodded, but his sharp gaze didn’t waver. “Though something tells me that’s not the only reason you’re here.”

She hesitated, biting her lip. “You’re right.”

Alex leaned forward, resting his elbows on his desk. “Go on. What’s on your mind?”

Sophie exhaled slowly, gathering her thoughts. “I need your help.”

“With what?”

She hesitated again before finally blurting it out. “I need to finalize my divorce.”

Alex sat back, his brows furrowing. “Your divorce? You want me to help with that?”

She nodded. “I don’t have the resources or connections to do it on my own. You know Adam… and you know how manipulative he can be. If anyone can help me out of this mess, it’s you.”

Alex studied her for a long moment, then nodded. “Alright, I’ll help. Whatever you need, just let me know.”

Sophie’s lips curled into a small smile, but there was a flicker of unease in her eyes that Alex didn’t miss.
