Chapter 33
The day had been nothing short of frustrating for Adam. He had stormed into his lawyer’s office, confident that the footage he had gathered would be enough to win his case, to prove Brenda’s feelings and motives. But now, sitting across from the lawyer, his confidence had shattered.
The lawyer shook his head, his expression stern. “Adam, this video is not enough. It doesn’t show anything concrete. It’s just a woman confessing her feelings. You need more to convince anyone in court.”
Adam slammed his fist onto the desk, his frustration bubbling over. “What do you mean, it’s not enough? She admitted it! She confessed that she’s been playing me this whole time!”
The lawyer raised a hand, trying to calm him. “I understand, but unless you can prove coercion, manipulation, or some form of deceit, this video won’t hold up in court. You need more—something that shows Brenda’s intent to harm or deceive you in a significant way.”
Adam’s shoulders slumped, his head pounding with frustration. “So, what now? What do I do next?”
James, his new lawyer, leaned back in his chair, his fingers tapping lightly on the desk. “You need to build trust with Brenda. Right now, she’s a liability. If you want her to work in your favor, you need her to believe in you again.”
Adam’s eyes narrowed. “And how am I supposed to do that?”
James gave him a knowing look. “Take her out. Go public. Make her feel like you’re on her side, like you care about her. The more friendly you are with her in public, the less hostile the media and public will be towards you. If they see you two as a united front, they’ll back off, and you’ll have more time to figure out your next move.”
Adam stared at him, the weight of the suggestion hanging heavily in the air. “So, you’re telling me I should pretend to be friendly with her? Like we’re a couple again?”
Eric nodded. “Exactly. But remember, this is just the first step. You need to make her believe you’re the one she can rely on. It’ll take time. Don’t expect her to fall for it overnight.”
Adam let out a sigh, rubbing his temples. “Alright, I’ll try it.”
He pulled out his phone, about to call Brenda, but the screen stayed silent. Her name appeared, but the call went unanswered. He tried again. No answer. And then again. Still nothing.
“Damn it,” he muttered under his breath, the frustration bubbling up again. He could feel the walls closing in on him. He needed Brenda’s trust if this whole plan was going to work.
