Liam replied with a smile, "I'm afraid you've been distracted, or you wouldn't know I'm looking at you. Abigail, you always have your eyes on me."
Abigail scoffed, "You are so confident."
"I deem it a virtue."
"I mean you're narcissistic."
Liam was speechless.
Only then did Liam realize that Abigail was sniping at him.
He turned to glare at Abigail and retorted, "I am not."
Abigail didn't refute him.
This conversation would come to nothing, so Abigail just smiled and said nothing more.
Liam rolled his eyes at her and asked, "When are you going back to work?"
"Tomorrow."
"Good," Liam replied. He'd rather Abigail go to work than stay at home. At least he could see her in the company.
They spent the rest of the drive in companionable silence.
Leo arrived a little earlier than Abigail and Liam.
When they got out of the car, Leo said, "I've made a reservation!"
Abigail nodded and smiled at Leo. He was really sweet and considerate.
Watching Abigail smile at Leo, Liam was itching to seal her mouth with a tape. She had never smiled at him like that before. He reminded himself that he was a gentleman and couldn't lose his temper.
So he forced a smile. "Thank you, Mr. Harris." Then he walked into the restaurant with Abigail.
