S21 37. Melanie’s Dark Secret
“What do you mean?” Melanie swallowed hard. Her tongue was going
numb.
Paul smiled slyly. “You think I don’t know? You are a murderer. You are lucky that I still loved you all this time. Now, because that time is over, is there any reason for me to cover up your crimes?”
Paul’s crisp laugh filled the air. When it subsided, the rest left an impression of horror.
“Life is funny. We started at the altar but ended up together in prison.”
Suddenly, Paul leaned forward, whispering, “But after thinking about it, I think you’ll be the one to go in there first. I still have a chance. Maybe, there’s a kind investor who wants to be my savior. But you
His finger was pointed forward. “You have no hope. Your sins cannot
be erased like a debt.”
While Paul laughed again, Melanie grimaced in annoyance. When he chest became too tight, she grabbed Paul by the collar.
“Don’t mess up with me! You think you can threaten me with that
You don’t have solid evidence.”
“Is that so?” Paul nodded more slowly. “If you’re that sure, let’s go to court. Let’s see who will win. You or the evidence I’ve been hiding.”
“Shut up!” Melanie shouted with shaking shoulders. “You don’t have any proof. Don’t make things up!”
“I didn’t make it up. Would you only believe it after being thrown in prison? Or ….” Paul leaned closer and stroked his wife’s cheek. “How about we don’t divorce? You are still my wife and I will continue to protect your secret. As long as ….

The caress turned into a light pat. “You want to help me talk to your son. Get him to help my company. After that, we’re even.”
Melanie’s breathing became more ragged. Her tears thickened in her eyes. “I’ll kill you too,” she snarled faintly.
“Go ahead! I’m fine despite the burdens of the world. But you have to remember. There are other people who also know your secret. Once I die unnaturally, the evidence of your crimes will immediately land in
court.”
Melanie hissed and pushed away the shirt she had been clutching. If Frank hadn’t been at home, she would have screamed, letting out all
her frustration.
“You have the heart to do that to me?” she asked as if she was the
one who was hurt the most.
“Actually, no. But you forced me to.”
With a pitiful look, Paul grabbed his wife’s hand.
“Come on, Darling, come back to me. We can fight together. I promise
I won’t change. You will still be the queen I pamper. It’s just that I
need money and only you can fulfill it.”
Melanie fell silent. Glaring at Paul, she cursed in her heart. ‘Dan Turns out he’s not as stupid as I thought.’

“How is it, Darling? You like my offer, right? Or should I approach your son before you make move?”
“Alright!” Melanie shouted, restrained. “I’ll talk to him. Now you go home! I’m sick of seeing your face.”
Paul snorted. “You think I’m stupid? Do it now. I’ll keep an eye on you. Once you act up, our deal is off.”
Melanie grimaced again. She never expected that the situation could
turn around.

“Okay. Let’s go meet Frank.” The sooner the problem was resolved, the sooner Paul would be gone from her face.
“Good.”
Without wasting any time, they walked out. But in front of the door, Barbara blocked their way.
“What is it, Mom, Dad? What were you talking about?”
While Melanie’s expression hardened, Paul stroked his daughter’s arm. “Nothing, Dear. Just business.”
“You guys aren’t planning anything evil, are you?” Barbara asked in
worry.
Melanie took a deep breath. Without giving any answer, she walked to
Frank’s room.
Meanwhile, Paul rubbed Barbara’s head. “No. Don’t worry.” After that, he followed Melanie. His wife was already knocking on the door.
“Frank, I want to talk to you. It’s important.”
Just as Paul arrived, the door opened. Frank appeared with his h still wet. “What’s wrong, Mom?”
Frank’s expression relaxed. However, when he noticed Paul’s
presence, his eyebrows rose. “Mr. Harris?”
Paul chuckled. “I didn’t think you know me. Nice to meet you, Frank.”
He reached out his hand. Frank couldn’t help but greet him.
Meanwhile, Melanie exhaled quickly. She was too lazy to make small
talk.
“We’ll be waiting in your study. Come quickly.”

Without waiting for an answer, Melanie pulled Paul along with her. Seeing the interaction of the two people, Frank’s brows furrowed.
‘Isn’t their relationship not on good terms? Then why is Paul Harris
here?’
Suddenly, someone touched his shoulder. “What’s wrong, Frank?”
The man gasped. When he turned around, he found Kara in her towel
kimono.
“My stepfather came. He and Mom asked me to talk.”
Kara was taken aback. “Now? We haven’t even had dinner yet.”
Frank nodded. “It looks like there’s something urgent. Maybe it’s a business matter. I have a bad feeling about this. Do you want to accompany me to meet them?”
Kara smiled softly. “If you ask, I can’t possibly refuse.”
Frank curled up his lips as well. While holding his wife’s hand, he sighed, “Let’s hurry. I’m not comfortable leaving the two of them in my study for too long.”
After a few moments, Frank and Kara entered the room. Melanie an Paul were already sitting in the guest chairs, awkward and somewha
distant.
“You bring your wife?” Melanie looked up at Kara from under her lowered eyebrows.
“Do you mind?” Frank inquired, sounding displeased.
Melanie took a deep breath. Not wanting to cause trouble, she shook her head faintly.
