S31 5. Targeting the Twins
Kara’s smile suddenly faded. The air around her had turned heavy.
“It’s not what you think, Mrs. Johnson.” She tried to control her tone.” Louis and Emily don’t like their plates to be too full. That’s why I gave them room to cut and scoop food.”
“Yes, I don’t like my plate being too full. The food could spill,” Louis said with a serious expression.
“Yes, so do I,” Emily nodded.
However, Diana snorted. “You’re not used to taking care of the kitchen and you’re not very skilled at taking care of your children.
What makes your husband put up with you?”
“Kara is not like that,” Frank’s voice started to rise, even though he was trying to keep it level.
“But that’s the reality.” Diana put the knife and fork on top of the remaining food on her plate.
“She gave little food to the children and too much to the elderly. She is not only an inept housewife, but also a woman who pays little attention to other people. Is her job all this time just making up herself and having fun?”
“Grandma, what’s wrong with you?” Philip asked, shaking his head in disbelief. The old woman in front of him was not the Diana Johnson
he knew.
“The friends you brought need to realize. I’m helping them.”
Frank’s brow furrowed deeper. “What to realize?”
“That you have been living in a lie all this time. You think you have
chosen the most appropriate partner, but that’s not true.” Diana shrugged her shoulders lightly.
Frank took a deep breath. His knife and fork had also been put down. His hands were now clenched into fists, maintaining patience.
“It’s clear that it’s not us who need to realize, but you, Mrs. Johnson. You’ve only met Kara today, but you think you know her best. In fact, all your judgments are wrong.”
“Yes, Mommy is not what Grandma thinks. She is the person who
knows us best. Mommy also loves us very much,” Louis continued with a serious expression. He really didn’t like someone insulting his
mother.
Emily also didn’t want to stay silent. “Apart from that, Mommy is very good at cooking. I really like the sandwiches and salads she makes. Mommy is the best mother in the world.”
The corner of Diana’s mouth twitched. The more defenses she heard,
the more irritated she became.
“See? You’ve been blinded. But that’s okay. Over time, the truth will come out. You’ll realize that your mother wasn’t that good of a
mother.”
Kara blinked in surprise. Her gaze was fixed on a pair of eyes that were difficult to decipher. It’s like she got revenge in there, but there
was also pain.
After one quick breath, Kara finally intervened. “Frank, Little Angels calm down. Mrs. Johnson is just saying what she saw. Mommy is a bit lazy today.”
A second later, she turned towards the old woman. “Mrs. Johnson, thank you for reminding me. Sorry if my negligence bothered you. I know you really care about children. You would definitely be hurt if you saw a mother was careless in taking care of her children.”
The twins’ cheeks puffed up. They didn’t like seeing Kara apologize for a mistake she didn’t make.
Meanwhile, Frank was just like everyone else. He sighed in
resignation, realizing that Kara would rather give in to avoid a scene.
“Just it?” Diana started the fire again. “You’re just willing to admit your laziness?”
Π
Kara’s eyebrows lowered again. “Is there anything else, Mrs. Johnson?
Diana scoffed, “Oh really? Young people nowadays are so stubborn. They never listen to what the elderly say. In fact, I clearly mentioned
falsehood.”
“You really think our relationship is fake?” Frank replied, spreading the
tension.
While cleaning her hands with a napkin, Diana spoke lazily, “Do you dare to bet on how long your marriage will last?”
“Forever. We will always be together until forever. Kara will never leave me and I will always be by her side.”
“Of course she won’t leave you. You have a lot of money. But what if you already realize her incompatibility? You must be thinking about leaving her, right?”
Louis and Emily started to pout. They were no longer interested in
food.
“Why did Grandma talk as if she wanted Mommy and Daddy to separate? We are a happy family.” Emily’s voice sounded wrenching.
“Yes, Mommy and Daddy never fight. It’s impossible for Mommy and Daddy to separate.” Louis shook his head hopefully.
Hearing that hoarse voice, Diana’s breathing became a bit shallow.

However, after rubbing her neck, she raised her chin.
“I know you’re still too young, but you have to remember. Reality doesn’t always match expectations. Love between a couple has an expiration date. When it ends, the marriage is over. You have to be prepared.”
In an instant, the twins’ whines were in the air. Their heads shook in
disapproval.
“No, I don’t want Mommy and Daddy to be separated.”
“Yes, I want us to always be together. If Mommy and Daddy separate, I don’t know who to choose. I will cry every day and won’t be able to be happy anymore.”
“No, Little Bee.” Kara pulled the twins into a hug. “Mommy and Daddy won’t separate. Grandma Diana is just scaring you.”
Suddenly, Frank dropped his fist on the table. His eyes were red, fixed on the old woman.
“This has gone too far. I know you don’t like me. But it doesn’t mean you can attack my wife and kids.”
