S31 14. Stay Alert
Kara smiled wryly. “She had a valid reason.”
“But I still don’t like her. You have to be more careful, Sister-in-Law. Don’t be fooled by her friendliness. And at the orphanage, don’t
separate yourself from me. I will protect you from anyone.”
Kara laughed amusedly. “I’m very lucky to have a sister-in-law as reliable as you.”
“Tell me that later, after my duty as a bodyguard is successful. Now let’s see what their plans are. Stay alert, okay?”
Kara nodded slightly. “Okay.”
Upon arrival at the orphanage, Kara and Barbara were not greeted by anyone. All the children stand around Sophia. They scrambled to hug the woman first.
“I think I know why Grandma asked us here.” Barbara leaned towards
Kara.
“What?” Kara replied with the same volume.
“So that Sophia can show off. Look. She must feel the greatest, the most generous, the most compassionate.”
“Isn’t this view very beautiful?” Diana suddenly stood beside them. Barbara spontaneously straightened up.
“Yes, Grandma.” She forced a smile.
“You know what? Children have pure souls. They tend to feel safe and comfortable around people with clean hearts.”
The corners of Barbara’s lips twitched. “Do you mean that Sophia has
a clean heart?”

The curve of Diana’s lips wavered slightly at that doubt. “Yes. Look how happy the children here are to meet Sophie. That girl is like a savior angel to them.”
Barbara almost snorted. However, not wanting to offend Diana, she shut her mouth tightly and nodded.
Meanwhile, Kara smiled broadly. Her warmth seemed genuine. “Yes, Sophia is a soft-hearted woman. It’s natural that children like her.”
However, Diana didn’t like the compliment. She thought Kara’s
confession was fake.
“Do you like children too?” Diana raised her eyebrows.
Kara widened her eyes, not expecting the question. However, after a blink, her lips curved beautifully again.
“Yeah, they’re adorable, especially the twins.”
“Then you don’t mind helping us prepare for the end of year party, right?”
“You want to hold a party here?” Barbara felt called.
Diana nodded. “I want to hold a fireworks party to welcome the New Year. Therefore, I need your help to take care of several things.”
“That sounds fun.” Barbara’s spirit began to burn. “What do we need
to do?”
The curve of Diana’s lips turned slanted.
“Sophia has bought gifts for the children. Clothes, bags, shoes. There are trumpets and conical hats too. But they haven’t been wrapped yet. I want to match the size to each child. But these old eyes are too lazy
to read the data.”
Barbara snapped her fingers. “That’s easy, Grandma. We can do it.”

Diana’s index finger suddenly straightened. “That’s your job, I have another duty for your sister-in-law.”
Kara and Barbara glanced at each other.
“What’s my job, Mrs. Johnson?”
Unexpectedly, Diana pulled Kara’s arm through a door. Barbara followed.
“You know this place?” Diana let go of Kara and swung her hand. towards the open-roofed hall.
“Kids like to play here. But since the floor is covered with snow, I forbid them. I’m afraid the floor will be slippery. So, can you shovel
the snow out?”
While Kara’s eyebrows pulled together, Barbara gasped. “You want Kara to clean this hall? Why not just send the men?”
Diana waved her hand. “I saw them having fun earlier. I didn’t want to disturb them. They are hard workers. They rarely get time to relax like
that.”
Diana’s eyes shifted to Kara. “Besides, you don’t mind, right? Once in a while, helping others is necessary.
Kara’s smile completely disappeared. Her chest was a little tight. However, before she had time to respond, Barbara snapped, “Then what is Sophia’s job? Why doesn’t she shovel the snow?”
Diana shook her head swiftly. “She has bought all the gifts. Does it make sense if I ask her to shovel the snow?”
Before Barbara could argue, the old woman patted Kara’s arm. “Now get to work. The tools are over there, And you….”
Diana grabbed Barbara’s arm. “Let’s start wrapping the presents. We still need to put the name tags on the hats.”

“Wait. Kara….”
Diana hurriedly dragged Barbara out of the place. Kara smiled seeing her sister-in-law reaching out her hand.
“I’m fine. Do your job.”
Barbara frowned in resignation. Even after disappearing behind the door, she still wore an unwilling expression.
Slowly, the curve of Kara’s lips turned flat. While observing the thin layer of snow, she let out a faint sigh.
“There’s no point in complaining, right?” she muttered with a sad look.
After one breath, she went to take the tools. She must complete the
task before the twins or Frank looked for her.
While carrying out her duties, Barbara occasionally looked at Kara. She felt sorry to see her sister-in-law cleaning such a big place alone. In her heart, she grumbled, why couldn’t the orphanage staff do it?
“Hi, is there anything I could help?” Sophia approached the table with a happy face. Barbara sneered faintly.
“Nothing, Sweetheart. Just sit still or play again with the children. They have been waiting for you for a long time.”
“They’re starting to get bored of me, Grandma,” Sophia said, half laughing.
Diana wrinkled the bridge of her nose. “That’s impossible. Now, are you thirsty or hungry? You must be tired of serving them.”
Sophia shook her head sweetly. “No, Grandma. I’m actually happy.”
