S31 33. The Heartbeats
After a few moments, an irregular graph appeared on the screen. A small thumping sound accompanied it. Hearing that, Emily laughed silently.
“It sounds so beautiful, Mommy,” she whispered to Kara.
“The baby’s heart sounds healthy. Thank goodness he’s okay,” Louis continued with the same smile.
Kara nodded but didn’t answer. Her sobs could escape if her mouth opened.
“You see this throbbing part?” The doctor pointed at the screen again, “That’s your little sibling’s heart.”
The twins looked at it like the most precious jewel in the world. Their mouths opened, releasing gasps of astonishment and immeasurable joy.
Meanwhile, someone behind the curtain shed tears hearing
everything. Her feelings were chaotic, too many emotions mixed. The
nurse noticed.
“Madam, why don’t you come in?”
Diana shook her head slowly. “There are already a lot of people there.”
“The doctor doesn’t mind.”
However, she still shook her head. “Here is fine too. I can hear their
chatter.”
The nurse nodded. After she left, Diana wiped her face and got up from the chair. However, when she was about to reach for the doorknob leading out, Frank’s sobs froze her movements.

“Kara, I’m sorry,” the man sighed sadly.
“Oh? Frank, why are you crying?” Kara asked softly, half amused.
Diana peeked. Frank was standing next to Kara’s bed, wiping his eyes with his sleeve. The twins who were standing near the doctor blinked
at the sight.
“Daddy, did you secretly hope that our little sibling were twins? Are you disappointed?” Louis guessed.
Frank shook his head. “I’m moved.”
Rubbing Frank’s hand, Kara furrowed her brows. “If you’re just moved, why apologize?”
Frank looked at Kara with his wet eyes. In that instant, his feelings of guilt became even more intense.
“I’m sorry. When you were pregnant with Louis and Emily, I wasn’t there by your side. I regret that. I can’t imagine you going through it
alone.”
“There’s no need to be sorry, Frank. The important thing is we’re together now. Besides, my mother was with me at that time. I was
fine.”
Emily walked over to Frank’s side. Looking up, she patted her father leg.
“Yes, Daddy, don’t be sad. We’re fine. The important thing is now we welcome the baby together.”
“Sorry I came into your lives late,” Frank said hoarsely.
“It’s okay, Daddy. It’s okay.” Emily hugged Frank tightly. Louis also hugged him from the other side.
“Daddy, don’t be sad. The baby will misunderstand and be sad too.”

Witnessing that, Diana let out a confused sigh. Guessing, she left the room. Philip and Barbara immediately welcomed her.
“How is it, Grandma? Is Kara really pregnant?”
Diana nodded. In an instant, the couple in front of her cheered and hugged each other.
“I’ll get another nephew or niece!”
Philip nodded vigorously. “We have another little friend.”
However, Diana didn’t smile at all. Her face was sad, her eyes were confused. Noticing that, Philip’s laughter died down. “What’s wrong, Grandma?”
Diana swallowed hard. “I wonder why Frank was crying. He said he was sorry he wasn’t there when Kara was pregnant with his children.”
“Grandma, you don’t know about that?” Barbara raised an eyebrow.
Diana took a deep breath. “No. Tell me.”
Philip took a deep breath. He felt sorry for Diana who was missing out on so many things.
“That’s a long story, Grandma. Life for their little family wasn’t as smooth as you imagined.”
“How did it happen?” Diana tightened her eyebrows.
“Frank was once framed with a girl in a hotel room.”
“That girl was Kara?”
Philip nodded. “Back then, Frank wasn’t like he is now. He was a perfectionist, arrogant, too strict. At that time, they didn’t know each other. He just left Kara.”
“And it turned out, Kara was pregnant?”

Philip raised his eyebrows. “Yes, Kara raised the twins with her mother, until she met Frank again, a few months ago. The process towards their marriage was long because Rowan was against it.”
Diana sighed in pity. “What a poor girl, and I ended up being rude to her.” Her eyes were getting teary.
Barbara glanced at Philip. He had just told her that Diana had changed completely. She didn’t believe it, not until she saw it with her
own eyes.
“Do you regret it, Grandma?” Barbara asked carefully.
Diana nodded. “I was too cruel to all of you, especially Kara.”
Philip touched Diana’s shoulder. “Grandma, don’t need to worry. If you speak nicely with Kara, without even apologizing, Kara will definitely forgive.” His head nodded, supporting what he was saying.
Barbara imitated him. “Yes, my sister-in-law is really that kind. When we get back to the inn, just talk to her.”
Diana nodded languidly. Her hands clutched her chest, hoping that the pressure in her heart would decrease.
“I don’t understand why I acted like that. Suddenly, anger darkened eyes. Hatred surrounded my heart. I couldn’t see who was right. really sorry.”
Suddenly, the door opened. A nurse came out followed by Frank.
“Brother?” Barbara spun around to face Frank. “Is the examination finished? How’s the result?”
With a happy face, Frank held Barbara’s shoulder. “Kara is really pregnant. We will have our third child soon.”
Philip and Barbara once again let out a sigh of relief.
