S31 65. Miracle
Emily dropped her jaw. Her eyes twinkled, reflecting the light. “That means we don’t need school permission, Louis.”
“And we can help Auntie prepare the wedding! I can help choose the menu for the guests,” Louis raised his hand high.
“And I can help with choosing the outfits and bridal make-up.” Emily imitated her brother’s movements then nodded firmly.
Grimacing, Barbara took a deep breath. “Thank you, Emily, Louis. Philip and I actually plan not to bother anyone. We want to prepare this wedding ourselves. Be independent. But if we have trouble, we will contact you.”
“Ready, Auntie.” Louis placed four fingers on the tips of his eyebrow.
Emily followed. “We’re ready to help with anything.”
“Oh, I can’t wait to see the party. I’ve never attended a wedding in a big city,” Abigail exclaimed with sparkling eyes. There was no sadness on her face. She seemed to have really let go of Philip. “B wait. You invite me, right?”
Barbara nodded slightly. “Of course. If you weren’t there, who wou accompany Grandma to our wedding?”
Abigail curled up her lips again. “Thank you, Barbara. I’m glad my childhood friend found a girl as kind as you.”
Barbara waved her hand in front of her chuckle. “I am the lucky one to find a man as good as him.”
Abigail nodded slightly. After a blink, she looked back at the twins.” Then, what about your third wish?”
Louis snapped his fingers even though it didn’t make a sound. “Our third wish is for Ava’s mother to recover. We hope she can wake up
soon and meet all of us.”
Ava’s back straightened. Her eyes flickered with disbelief. “You guys… made a wish for my mother?”
The twins nodded.
“You have become part of our family, Ava. Of course we hope you are happy too.” Emily blinked her round eyes slowly.
“Yes! If your mother recovers, Emily and I will be happy. Mommy and Daddy too.”
Ava’s eyes involuntarily began to fill with tears. Her lips opened slightly, letting out a feeling that was too difficult to express in words.
“Thank you,” she said softly. Taking a deep breath, she bit her lip and looked down. “I’m very lucky to know you guys. Without you, I might not be able to spend the New Year with my mother.”
Susan stroked Ava’s shoulder. However, it was Kara who spoke up.
“In fact, we are lucky to have known you, Ava. Without your he party wouldn’t have happened. Frank and Barbara must still be
worried about their mother.”
Ava looked up with a face full of emotion. Her nod gave Louis an
“Emily, how about we visit Ava’s mother for a while? Let’s wish h happy new year and prayers.”
“Good idea, Louis.” With a bright smile, the little girl looked at Kara Mommy, can we visit Ava’s mother before we go to bed?”
Kara stroked her chubby cheek. “Aren’t you sleepy yet?”
The twins shook their heads together.
“We took nap twice, Mommy. We’re not sleepy yet.” Emily widened her eyes to look fresher.
“I actually think we won’t be able to sleep tonight,” Louis nodded with pursed lips.
“Well then, send her my regards, hmm?”
The twins’ laughter was heard again. “Thank you, Mommy.”
After kissing Kara’s cheek, they left with Ava. Jeremy took the initiative to escort them. The others looked on them with meaningful
smiles.
“They are truly extraordinary kids. Always enthusiastic and attentive. It wouldn’t be wrong if you called them Little Angels, Kara.”
Kara let out a small laugh. “Thank you, Grandma. They are the most beautiful gifts for us.”
“And soon, another gift will arrive,” Wela continued, glancing at Kara’s stomach. “How are you, pregnant mom?”
Kara welcomed Wela’s outstretched hand. “Much better thanks to supplements you recommended.”
Wela laughed briefly. Then, she glanced at the new faces she had seen for a long time. While she and Rony introduced themselves, twins and Ava arrived at their destination.
“Hello, Mrs. Connor! Happy new year!” Louis jumped with his arm
outstretched when he entered the room.
Emily quickly raised her index finger to her mouth, whispering. “Don’t be too loud, Louis. It’s late. What if Mrs. Connor is disturbed?”
Louis’ lips pursed. “Isn’t that good? If Mrs. Connor is annoyed, she will get angry. Then, she gets up and celebrates New Year with us. I don’ mind being scolded for a while.”
Emily blinked with knitted eyebrows. “You’re right. If Mrs. Connor wakes up, that’s even good. Ava, can we sing for your mother?”
Ava smiled faintly when she heard that, and then she realized. Her
mother never received entertainment since she was in a coma.
“What song do you want to sing?”
Emily put her index finger to her chin. “Louis, do you have any ideas?”
Instead of giving advice, Louis began to sing loudly. “Weeheeheehee dee heeheeheehee weeoh aweemoweh.”
Emily patted her forehead. She remembered that Louis did like talking about the Lion King lately. She just didn’t think her brother could
choose the soundtrack.
“Louis, Mrs. Connor is not a lion,” Emily protested.
However, Louis instead closed his eyes and sang with all his heart. His hands were pressed to his mouth as if holding a microphone.
“In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight.”
Ava let out a laugh. Shaking her head, she sat next to her mo watching how Louis performed.
A second later, Emily joined in singing. “Wee heeheeheehe aweemoweh.”
Ava’s laughter got louder. However, in her heart, she felt sad. Sh forgot the last time she laughed like that.
When Louis and Emily finished singing, she clapped her hands. even stood up as if paying her respects. “That was a great performance, Louis, Emily.”
