S31 114. The Twins Want a Cousin
“Come on, Ava. It’s not easy for me to beg like this. Don’t say that my efforts are not enough. Do I need to kneel before you so that you give me a chance?”
“What can you do? What is your strategy to change my mother’s thinking? Improve my relationship with Eva?”
Jeremy’s head almost tilted back. Strategizing was not his thing, but Frank’s. So far, he just asked for instructions and carried them out.
“Are you still confused?”
Jeremy blinked, forcing his brain to come up with an idea. “I will collect evidence to refute Eva’s accusations against you.”
“Do you think my mother will believe it? She must think that your evidence has been manipulated.”
“No. I’ll-”
“Then how do you prove that we’re not having an affair?”
Jeremy’s jaw throbbed. “We don’t need to prove it. Everyone knows you’re not a call girl. Only your mother and adopted sister can’t see that. Maybe after we show them your account, they’ll stop making this up. You’ve never received payment other than your salary as a nurse.”
Ava exhaled quickly. Her expression was now tainted with guilt and resignation. “But we did it, Jeremy.”
Jeremy’s brows furrowed, not understanding. “What’s the problem? I’m not paying you to serve me. We’re doing it out of love. I know it’s wrong, but we’re adults, Ava. Eva shouldn’t use that fact to instigate your mother. Moreover, I seriously want us to get married.”

“Love you say? Based on love?” Ava’s forehead frowned. Her lips escaped in astonishment at the end. “Have I ever confessed that I love you? Have you ever confessed that you love me? No, Jeremy. We don’t love each other.”
“I’ve never said it, but can’t you see it?” Jeremy shook his head slightly.
“Try to remember our first meeting. How cold I was towards you? Compare it to now. Am I still the same?”
While Ava breathed heavily, Jeremy held her shoulders.
“No, Ava. I’m not the same person anymore, and I’m not someone who gets along easily with anyone, let alone girls. I only act warmly to people I care about, whose presence I like, who I want to always keep with me.”
While correcting his standing position, Jeremy closed their line of sight. He didn’t want to let Ava get away with being serious.
“I used to laugh when Frank changed because of Kara. He became softer and weaker. He smiled more often and sometimes went crazy. But now, I understand him. A man must be willing to give up for the woman he loves. And if you still doubt me, listen to me carefully.”
Jeremy leaned forward again. Ava could now see the reflection of her face in his eyes-the confusion, the tension.
“I love you, Ava Connor.”
Ava’s warmed. The remaining stiffness in her heart melted.
Unfortunately, the questions in her mind were racing wildly. Her
furrowed brows showed how much she was trying to suppress the noise and the turmoil in her chest.
“But still, I don’t want to give you a chance. We can’t get married, Jeremy. I don’t love you.”

Ava was already trying to steady her voice. However, her dilemma was too big. Her tone wavered.
“If you refuse to marry me because you don’t love me, I won’t force you. But if you refuse for the sake of your family’s peace, that’s not fair, Ava.”
Ava’s shoulders lifted higher. But before she had time to reason, Jeremy continued, “Are you sure you don’t love me?”
He raised an eyebrow, seeming doubtful. Feeling intimidated, Ava looked away.
“You can’t force someone to love you.”
Jeremy pinched her chin and turned her head until their eyes met again. “Tell me now if you can.”
He lowered his hand until it touched her fingers. While holding her, he twitched an eyebrow. “I’m good at observing someone’s movements. I will immediately know that you love me even if you say otherwise.”
Ava’s breath hitched. Her mouth was dry and her lips trembled. After swallowing hard, she whispered, “I don’t love you.”
Jeremy blinked evenly. With a relaxed movement, he lifted her hand
“See? Your lips say you don’t love, but your hands hold me tightly. You’re secretly afraid of the consequences of your lies, right? You’re afraid we’ll be separated?”
Ava stuttered. “Why am I afraid? I really don’t love. Besides, we’re not together yet. How could we be apart?”
“Look! You’re holding me tighter. Your lips are twitching and your eyes are unstable.”
Feeling cornered, Ava tried to pull her hand away. “I’m not holding you. You’re the one holding my hand. Now let me go.”

Ava thought she would be in trouble. But apparently, Jeremy didn’t hold back. The man let her hand go then whispered, “I will never let
you go.”
A second later, Ava gasped because Jeremy’s arms had locked around her waist, closing the distance between them.
“Jeremy?” She pushed the thick muscle in front of her. Her eyes widened to the maximum. “Don’t mess with me. I can scream.”
Instead of feeling afraid, the man just nodded. “I can feel it.”
Ava’s resistance instantly stopped. “Feel what?” ”
“Your heart is beating fast. You can’t deny it anymore Ava. You really, really love me.”
Ava gaped in disbelief. “You’re Mr. Forceful, hmm? How many times do I have to say it? I-”
Ava couldn’t breathe anymore. Jeremy had covered her mouth with a hot kiss. Before she could process the situation, he freed her lips.
“You still want to deny it? Normally, women will rebel if they are kissed by a man they don’t like, but you just kept quiet. You’re ha a hard time choosing between your heart and logic, right?”
