Eliza tried to lighten the mood, hoping to sidestep the issue.
Amaya, however, was having none of it. "He's always at home; there's no way he has a girlfriend. Definitely not."
Eliza just smiled, opting not to continue the conversation.
Not far off, Faithe and Casper’s eyes were glued to Eliza.
“Mr. Casper, do you think she can land the contract?”
Faithe had her doubts about Eliza’s abilities. Sure, Eliza had some connections, but the stakes here were much higher than just knowing the right people.
“If she wants that million, she’ll move mountains to get it done.”
Eliza had a tenacious streak. Casper didn’t know why she needed the million, but it seemed urgent.
“But Mr. Casper, with all the competition today, are you sure she can pull it off?”
He was sure. Though Carter had bought the land years ago, it had since been deeded to his son. And his son, David, had once been head over heels for Eliza. The Simmons family adored Eliza. Why wouldn’t they reward her with this piece of land to make her happy?
Turning away, Casper headed outside, and Faithe quickly followed.
After some family chit-chat, Amaya called her son over. "David, it’s been ages since you and Eliza last caught up. Why don’t you two chat? I’ll go check on your dad; don’t let him get too carried away with the drinks."
Amaya, all smiles, nudged her son to sit beside Eliza.
