His Destructive, Toxic Love novel Chapter 528

It was just about the most unfair twist of fate.

Eliza suddenly felt a pang of guilt over her earlier attitude. Just as Caroline was about to close the door, Eliza called out, "Sis, I'm sorry, I..."

Caroline paused, gave a small tug at her lip, and simply said, "I'm leaving."

She didn't give Eliza an opportunity to apologize.

After Caroline left, Eliza sat in front of Casper's photo, staring at the two divorce papers in her hand. She was lost in thought for who knows how long before she finally rubbed her aching neck and wandered out to the balcony.

Brock still didn't know about Casper's passing. Just when he'd found a father, he was taken away so suddenly. Eliza couldn't figure out how to break the cruel news to him.

Her hand gently rested on her belly, filled with pity for the child inside her who would never know their father. "Oh, you poor thing, choosing now to come into my life. It's just so unfair."

"But don't worry, no matter how tough it gets, I'll make sure you and your brother grow up okay."

"From now on, it's just the three of us against the world."

She was caught up in a wave of self-pity, her eyes dull and lifeless. She didn't want to cry anymore; tears wouldn't bring him back, and maybe she and Casper really weren't meant to be.

Maybe it was better this way.

*Ding dong*.

The doorbell rang.

Eliza took a moment to compose herself before answering the door. Standing there was Juan.

As soon as he saw Eliza, he pulled her into a hug. "How could something this huge happen and you didn't tell me?"

"I didn't get the chance." Her eyes lowered slightly.

Juan knew Eliza too well. It wasn't that she hadn't had the chance; she just never planned to tell him. If he hadn't seen the news about Casper's death while he was abroad, she would have kept it all to herself.

"Why do you always have to be so strong?" he asked, dragging his suitcase inside. Before he even had a chance to set it down, he noticed the divorce papers on the table. "Divorced? When did this happen?"

"Just now," she replied, tucking the papers away.

Juan couldn't wrap his head around it. Was this the Welton family's doing? With their influence, getting a divorce paper to cut Eliza out of any inheritance was a breeze. But it was such a low blow.
