His Destructive, Toxic Love novel Chapter 563

Dillon was momentarily stunned by the slap, blinking in disbelief at the woman in front of him. His eyes were red as he gripped her wrist, “Caroline, have you lost it? If we don’t cough up the money, they’re coming for you. What’s more important, three hundred thousand dollars or your life?”

“The debt is Luke’s, not mine. What can they really do to me? Are they going to kill me? You just love to jump into things, always needing to meddle. Who do you think you are?”

Caroline was clearly upset, her words sharp but seemingly unaware of their sting. Dillon let out a bitter laugh, pain clear in his eyes as he mocked himself, “Right, who am I? Just a lovesick fool.”

Caroline was caught off guard, about to respond, but Dillon was already walking away. She hurried after him, blocking his path, “Who are you mad at? Did I call you a fool?”

“I said it myself,” he stopped, a self-deprecating smile hinting at his lips as if daring himself, “Satisfied?”

He brushed past her, heading for the car. Caroline stepped in front of him again, her voice edged with frustration, “Why are you so angry? What did I do?”

“Miss Caroline, I’m Dillon, with no name, no power, no money, no status. I’m nothing. But to say such things to someone who came to help you, where’s your heart?”

His eyes hid a mix of pain and disappointment as he forced a bitter smile, “From now on, I’ll stay out of your business.”

“I... I didn’t mean it like that.” She bit her lip, a mix of confusion and hurt flickering in her eyes. She wasn’t blind to right and wrong, “I meant the debt is Luke’s. Even if they don’t get the money, they wouldn’t dare touch me. Paying them off is just giving in, it’ll only make them bolder.”

“You’re willing to gamble, but can I?” His fingers trembled, pointing at his heart, his lips twisting in a bitter smile, “Forget it, you wouldn’t understand.”

“I wouldn’t understand...” She suddenly grabbed the front of his shirt, a rush of emotion rising in her chest, her eyes full of hope, “... I wouldn’t understand unless you tell me. If you explain, I’d get it.”

He gently unclasped her slender wrist, pulling her hand away, “Let’s just go back.”
