"Shut up! The Foster family isn't narrow-minded like you! Ivy's family doesn't dislike Lucas, so don't go causing trouble! They don't want to see you at all!" Lucas' mother retorted.

Mr. Woods scoffed. "Is that so? Do you really think they don't look down on him? Why wouldn't they? Are they planning to make Lucas marry into their family instead of the other way round?"

"It's none of your business! You never cared about Lucas, and now that he's independent, he doesn't need you anymore! You wouldn't have come to me repeatedly if Ivy wasn't Elliot Foster's daughter and if she wasn't interested in Lucas. Do you really think I have no idea what you are plotting?"

Mr. Woods countered, "What nonsense are you talking about? Didn't you send him to live with me when Lucas turned eighteen? You said you couldn't handle him anymore, so you asked me to care for him. Did I or did I not look after him? If it weren't for me, how could he have studied abroad? Could he have gained so much knowledge? He only managed to start his own business because I paid for his education!"

Her face alternated between red and white. "I'll make sure Lucas repays you for his college tuition!"

Mr. Woods snapped, "Clearing his debt won't change the fact that he's my son! That's an unalterable fact! Whether he lives well or poorly in the future, he's still my son! You can't sever that bond between us!"

Lucas' mother panted heavily and muttered, " Why you..."

"What about me? Aren't you about to die? When that happens, Lucas will only have me as family. You can't control his future, and you can't control our relationship.
