Jason was pacing outside the Windermere Estate, worried sick.
Seeing Evadne walking out carrying a suitcase, Jason hurried over to help her.
"Ms. Evadne, Thaddeus didn't mess with you, did he?!"
"If he dared to mess with me, I'd definitely give him a piece of my mind," Evadne threatened.
Jason noticed she was only wearing slippers and got worried, "Your feet?"
"I rushed out and forgot to change shoes."
Actually, at the entrance, there were several pairs of her white sneakers, which she could totally change into a pair before leaving.
But she stubbornly resisted Thaddeus and the past three years.
Those shoes all belonged to Ilana Waverley, neatly left there as if they were at anyone's disposal.
Evadne's shoes were all luxurious high heels. She would never wear Ilana's old shoes again and she definitely wouldn't reminisce about that time.
"Head to the K Orld Hotel."
The engine of the Bugatti roared, and Evadne left.
At this moment, in the upstairs of the villa.
Thaddeus stood by the window, watching in the direction Evadne left, his heart aching.
Back at the hotel, Evadne kept silent, taking the elevator with Jason to the manager's office.
Just stepping into the corridor, both were startled by Jareth!
"Jareth? What brought you here?!" Evadne walked up to him, surprised.
"I took the stairs," Jareth said with a smile.
His forehead was sweaty, his muscular arm holding his black suit, and a few buttons of his shirt unbuttoned, revealing his collarbone and chest muscles.
Jason looked at the wildness radiating from him, cursing him as a playboy in his mind!
Who did he think Ms. Evadne was? Thought a few muscles would get her attention?
However, Jareth seemed to read his mind. He not only didn't button up his shirt but unbuttoned it even lower, smiling at Jason.
"Are the executive secretary and the security guard just eating for nothing? How could they let someone up without an appointment or my approval?" Evadne growled.
Jareth was a bit surprised. He originally wanted to sneak up to surprise her, but it seemed to have scared her instead.
"I'll handle it," Jason said coldly, staring at Jareth.
"No need. I sneaked up."
Jareth quickly put on a pleasing smile, tightly grabbing Evadne's arm, "They wouldn't let me come up to see you. I had no choice but to do this. Don't blame them. If you want to blame someone, blame me!"
"Deduct all the wages of the executive secretary this month, find out who was in charge of security today, pay him off and fire him!"
Evadne quickly gave the order, forcefully pulling her arm out of Jareth's grip, and turned to walk towards her office.
"Yes." Seeing Jareth left behind, Jason was secretly thrilled!
"Ms. Evadne!" Jareth finally realized he messed up, hurriedly following Evadne frantically like a child who made a mistake, "I was wrong, I really was. I'll apologize! Just tell me, what do you want to forgive me? Even if it's the hardest thing, I won't hesitate!"
"Jareth." Evadne looked at him coldly, "Come in with me. I have something to ask you."
Jareth felt like he was pardoned, his eyes sparkling, quickly following her into the office.
If only she weren’t Thaddeus’ sister, if only he hadn’t already had another woman in his heart, he’d have pursued her long ago.
He was never one for self-restraint. She offering herself up, who wouldn’t want to devour her?
"Your flamboyance and wild ways were all your business. But Marilla is my dear sister, an innocent girl oblivious to the world. I won’t let anyone hurt her.”
“No. Evadne, you've got it all wrong!” Jareth didn't know how to explain, his black shirt soaked in anxious sweat. “That night, something happened to her. I was just, just...”
“Just trying to play her savior?”
Jareth swallowed hard, feeling like he was at a loss for words.
“You should've reported to the Abernathy family since the incident happened at their party. Was it your place to intervene?”
Evadne sneered, her gaze filled with disdain. “Mr. Jareth, don't even have the guts to admit what you've done?"
"I'm being framed! She kissed me and embraced me! I didn't do anything!" Jareth's eyes were filled with despair, feeling like he could never clear his name.
Evadne waved her hand, her patience worn thin. “Jareth, Marilla is not of your world. She's too helpless, too fragile. You have plenty of women around you, and your careless actions could completely ruin Marilla."
Jareth felt as if he'd lost all his strength, realizing no amount of explanation would work because Evadne had already labeled him as a 'jerk' in her mind.
Although he was indeed a jerk, he didn't want the person he cared about to see him in that light.
"I have work to do; please leave. And next time, if you show up unannounced at my office, I'll have security escort you out. Jason, see him out!”
"Evadne!” Desperate, Jareth approached her, hoping to salvage a glimmer of hope for his doomed romance.
As he got close, there was a sharp sound.
A sleek and concealed butterfly knife was at his throat!
