When Evadne awoke the next day, she found herself at home in Skyrim.
"Woah! Did I just teleport?"
She yelled in surprise, quickly pinching her cheek to make sure she wasn't dreaming.
Ouch!
This wasn't a dream. She was really home.
"Did I just teleport? I might as well have sprouted wings."
Just then, Suri and Aviana walked in to check on their darling daughter, only to find her awake and surprised. Aviana teased her, joining in on the joke.
"Evadne, how are you feeling? Is your stomach still bothering you?"
Suri hurried to her bedside, caressing her thinned cheeks with worry. "You've lost weight. Have you been overworking yourself lately?"
"Evadne, you should just stay here, away from Elmsworth's troubles! We'll take care of you right here at home."
Aviana was equally concerned, her eyes welling up with tears. "You're the most precious jewel of the Ashbourne family and our pampered princess. You don't need to compete with those brutes. Whatever you want, we'll provide. Even if you want alligator's meat, I'd hunt down Rudi myself!"
Evadne chuckled, "Aviana, I'm not that picky, but alligator sashimi might be a bit too much."
"Aviana just doesn't know how to express her concern properly. She's just worried about you."
Suri was both heartbroken and guilty, "Your mother left with the promise that we'd take care of you. She didn't mean for you to suffer."
"It's just a stomachache. It's nothing serious." Evadne waved them off, thinking they were overacting.
"Nothing serious? When you were a child, we would worry for days over a simple cough!" Aviana exclaimed, her eyes wide in disbelief.
"Evadne, your father has been worried sick about you. He didn't sleep at all last night and hasn't eaten breakfast. He's been waiting for you to wake up." Suri sighed, feeling the pressure of having to care for both the young and the stubborn old.
"What? That's unacceptable!"
Evadne, who was previously lounging lazily, instantly sat up straight at the news. "I'll force-feed him if I have to!"
She suddenly remembered something, "Wait, how did I get home last night?"
"Cassius brought you home," Suri replied.
Ah, it would be Cassius, her ever reliable brother.
Aviana frowned, "But Cassius didn't look too pleased when he brought you home. I rarely see him upset. What did you do to him?"
Evadne shivered, "I would never dare upset Cassius. I'm the typical mouse who roars outside but is timid at home. You all know that."
Suri and Aviana nodded, "So, it wasn't you. It was someone else who upset him."
Evadne rubbed her throbbing temples and slid out of bed, "Well, it doesn't matter now. I need to go check on Emeric."
……
Inside his study, Emeric sat on his couch, sighing and frowning, clearly in distress.
Thinking back to the previous night when Evadne was brought home from Elmsworth, pale and in pain, he felt the heartache as if his heart was being torn apart.
"Mr. Cassius, have you seen the trending news today? The internet is full of praise for Miss Evadne. They're calling her a divine being, a legendary figure." Mr. Dylan tried to lighten the mood.
"A divine being? I think she's more like a mischievous monkey, never satisfied until she's turned everything upside down!"
Emeric smacked the armrest in frustration. "Is it too much to ask for her to just be a normal, well-behaved young lady? Does she need to stir up trouble to feel content?"
Myra blinked in surprise, "Emeric, did you... know all along that Evadne was Alea?"
"She's my own daughter, of course. I know everything about her, except for her marriage to that Abernathy boy!"
Emeric was so angry that he started smacking his thigh.
The little girl he had once changed diapers for, was now growing into a woman with her own eccentricities, and he found it harder and harder to keep up with her.
"You should be proud of Evadne."
Myra blushed at the thought. "She's a top-tier jewelry designer. Even the Queen of Aetheria wears her designs at state banquets. This is a great honor for our family!"
"Myra, I'm not denying Evadne's talent. I just think she's too reckless and impulsive. She's alone in Elmsworth, making waves with her fearless attitude. This will only make her enemies."
Emeric massaged his temples in frustration. "People nowadays are full of ill intentions. I'm afraid she'll fall into a trap. Even if I can help her out, it would be too late."
Just then, the door opened and in walked Evadne, flushed and confident.
