His Ex-Wife Is A Billionaire (Evadne and Thaddeus) novel Chapter 244

After Thaddeus departed, Evadne helped a numb Jason back to the office.

She gently laid Jason's trembling body flat, his forehead beaded with sweat, his lips tightly pursed. She commenced a preliminary examination of his limbs with the precision of a seasoned surgeon.

"Miss Evadne. I'm fine."

Although Jason was numb all over, he wasn't completely incapacitated. Seeing Evadne so concerned for him, he felt a lump in his throat, "I'm sorry for causing you trouble."

"Nonsense, you were only trying to protect me. Just don't be so impulsive next time," Evadne admonished gently, her hands working to massage his legs.

"I wasn't impulsive."

Jason mustered all his strength to sit up on the couch, his gaze determined, "Even if it happened a thousand times, I'd still be the first one to jump in to protect you."

"Jason, you can't just rely on your skills and overestimate yourself, exposing yourself to dangers you can't handle. You're no match for Thaddeus! Do you think he was just idling away his four years in military school?"

Evadne's eyes reddened with worry, "He was lenient with you today. If you weren't my man, he might have dislocated your arm!"

"I don't care! What's death to me?"

Jason stood up shakily, his tall figure completely overshadowing Evadne, "Even if it kills me, I won't let that brute harm you!"

"Jason." Evadne stared, wide-eyed, into his teary eyes.

The next second, Jason's tears began to fall.

Due to his numbed nerves, he didn't even realize he was crying.

"Jason, why are you crying again?"

Evadne teased, her heart filled with a bitter sweetness as she raised her hand to wipe his tears.

Suddenly, Jason, mustering courage from somewhere, wrapped his long arms around her waist and pulled her into his embrace.

His other hand pressed down on her back, as if he wished to melt her into his pounding chest.

Evadne, not a fool, could sense the complex emotions in Jason's hug.

"Jason, let me go. Let's talk," she gently pushed him away.

"Miss Evadne. I'm ready to take any punishment you deem fit for my actions," Jason's face was tear-streaked, resembling melting ice.

He knew he was playing the victim card, pitifully begging for a piece of candy from his mistress.

It was somewhat shameless, but he felt angry, distraught, and was on the verge of going crazy!

However, Evadne wasn't someone who was easily swayed.

She gave him a stern look, her voice cold, "Starting tomorrow, you're taking a week off. Go home and rest."

"But Miss Evadne." Jason was taken aback, his heart aching.

"Your stress levels have been high recently and your emotional fluctuations have been drastic. This week, relax and sort out your feelings. Think about how you want to continue working by my side."

Glynnis had been interrogated by the police overnight. It had been a whole day.

These twenty-four hours had been torture for Glynnis, who was accustomed to a life of privilege. Even though she was given food and drinks, she was not allowed to sleep or rest. She was exhausted, with dark circles under her eyes, her behind sore from sitting for so long!

A harsh light was shining down on her, making her expensively maintained hair seem dry!

It was torture!

"I didn't. Caroline wasn't my spy. It has nothing to do with me. I was framed by Evadne. I am the victim here.”

Glynnis barely had any energy left, but she kept on denying, her words as stubborn as a mule.

Just then, the door to the interrogation room opened.

A man, dressed in a suit and carrying a black briefcase, walked in. He exuded a calm and confident aura.

"Officers, I am Ms. Glynnis's attorney, Cedric Dempsey."

Cedric, the famous lawyer?

Glynnis's eyes lit up at the sight of him.

Cedric gave her a reassuring smile, "I need to have a word with my client."

Glynnis followed Cedric to another room, as the only person she was allowed to see was her lawyer.

"Mr. Cedric! Did my father send you to rescue me?"

Glynnis grabbed Cedric's hand, tears streaming down her face, "Help me! I can't hold on much longer!"

"Ms. Glynnis, please rest assured. If I took your case, it means I have at least an 80% chance of getting you acquitted."

Cedric spoke gently, his eyes sharp, "But you need to cooperate with me fully. Tell me everything about the incident and don't hide anything."

"Okay, okay!"

Glynnis nodded vigorously, thinking about how Cedric had previously handled even her mother's big mess. She believed he could save her, so she relayed every detail about the incident.

Cedric listened without uttering a word.

"Mr. Cedric, can't you do anything about that Evadne? She's so detestable!"

Glynnis slammed her hand on the table in anger, "If it weren't for that wretched woman, how could I have ended up in this situation?"

"Ms. Glynnis, Evadne is your prosecutor, and she's the victim. And you know very well what kind of background she comes from."

Cedric's gaze darkened, "This time, our opponent is formidable. The Ashbourne family's heiress is ruthless. If we can get you off the hook, that's good enough. Don't set your expectations too high."

Glynnis felt snubbed, but given her situation, she dared not throw a tantrum.

"Your accuser, the reporter Caroline, is involved with the editor-in-chief of Pioneer Post. This can be useful to us. It can indirectly prove that the witness's testimony is unreliable."

Cedric's eyes were dark and deep, expertly twirling the pen in his hand. "Also, there's that suspect, Kevin. He was in a romantic relationship with Caroline before the incident happened. This is crucial. It's the breakthrough we need for the case."

"Do you mean we should pin everything on Kevin?" Glynnis dropped her voice to barely a whisper, her tone laced with shock.

Cedric offered a cryptic smile.

"But would he take the fall? As far as I know, he's completely broken things off with Caroline."

"You needn't worry about that."
