Evadne and Jason packed up, getting ready to head back to Elmsworth with the medicine Suri had given them.
"Evadne, are you in a hurry? Why don't you stay for dinner? It's almost ready," Myra, donning an apron, rushed over.
"No need, Myra. I need to get back."
Evadne moved forward, her hands lifting Myra's smoke-streaked face, inspecting it from side to side, "Myra, your birthday is coming up. Take a break for a couple of days and forget about all this work. You should be focusing on pampering yourself, you know? You need to be the most beautiful birthday girl this weekend!”
“Oh, birthdays. I don't even want to celebrate. Thinking about entertaining so many people on Sunday just makes me feel exhausted."
Myra sighed heavily, "It's just to keep your father happy."
“It's not you keeping my father happy. It's my father keeping you happy. No, it's all of us who want to celebrate your birthday."
Evadne's beautiful eyes flashed a hint of resentment, "Listen to me, no more overworking yourself. I have quite a few informants at home and if you don't behave, they'll report to me~ If I get angry, I won't be giving you any birthday gifts at your party and will just take advantage of the free food and drinks, hmm."
Jason just chuckled at the side.
He thought, "Evadne's pretend-angry look, her perky nose and pouty lips, was just too adorable."
Myra's beautiful face broke into a gentle smile, lightly pinching Evadne's cheek, "What birthday gift in this world could be more beautiful than having a family?"
She was an orphan, grew up in an orphanage, and accidentally entered the entertainment industry after being discovered by a talent scout while performing in a drama troupe. As one of Emeric's lovers, she didn’t have Suri’s noble upbringing or Aviana's formidable father.
She always felt inferior, thinking she wasn't worthy of Emeric, let alone this family.
Evadne was choked up.
She suddenly wished she could follow in her father's footsteps and have so many boys around her.
Too bad there were plenty of good women, but good men were rare. She feared that the family would eventually become a junkyard, which would be no fun at all.
“Evadne.”
A serious yet magnetic voice came.
Evadne hastily turned around to see Cassius dressed in a priest's black robe, holding a Bible in his left hand, and descending from the white marble staircase.
“Cassius.”
“Evadne, don’t rush off. There are a few things I want to discuss with you.”
In the tea room, Cassius personally made tea for his sister. The fragrance filled the room, whetting one’s appetite.
Evadne propped her cheek on her hand, watching Cassius skillfully perform the tea ceremony. He was so elegant, just like a prince.
What kind of woman could possibly be worthy of Cassius? It was really hard!
“Evadne, are you really interested in Avery?” Cassius pushed the tea cup gently towards her, asking in a calm tone.
“Eh?” Evadne was startled, almost dropping the cup in her hand.
“I'm serious.”
“No, absolutely, not, at, all.” Evadne emphatically shook her head.
“Then you should keep your distance from him in the future.” Cassius elegantly sipped his tea.
“Uh, he’s the one who insists on seeking me out. I'm not the one getting close to him.”
“So you neither accept nor reject him? Are you playing him?” Cassius asked gently.
“What are you talking about, Cassius? Since when did I become a player? That’s not how you should talk about your own sister!” Evadne's fair face flushed with anger.
