"Ilana, what did you just say?"

Hamilton was clearly taken aback by Evadne's words, staring at her in disbelief.

"There was chaos, a thug suddenly attacked us. I was busy protecting Myra and couldn't fend them off. The thug was skilled and even our bodyguards couldn't stop him."

Evadne recalled how Thaddeus had shielded her, taking a blunt hit to the head. Her eyes filled with tears, her voice choked with emotion, "At the nick of time, it was Thaddeus who came forward to protect me. If not for him, I would be the one being treated now. Grandpa, it's all my fault. I was too slow to react. Punish me, scold me. This time, I owe Thaddeus."

Emeric, witnessing his daughter's humility for the sake of the Abernathy boy, felt a pang of heartache. "Evadne."

"My foolish child, why are you so naive!"

With tears in his eyes, Hamilton hurriedly helped Evadne up. "Whether it's you or Thaddeus, I would be upset if any of you were hurt. If you were the one lying there, I would be even more heartbroken!"

"Grandpa." Emotion welled up in Evadne's heart, her voice choked with tears.

Hamilton gently stroked Evadne's soft hair, his aged eyes filled with affection for her, "That rascal hurt you for three years, breaking your heart. If he ends up like this, it's his just desserts, a debt he has to pay! Don't feel sorry for him, let him take a hit, maybe it will knock some sense into him!"

Evadne knew that her grandfather was merely putting on a brave face.

Hamilton had witnessed his grandson's growth. How could he not be heartbroken.

"Mr. Frederic!"

Mr. Murray hurried over, looking worriedly, "Mr. Frederic and his wife are here."

Upon hearing this, Hamilton turned solemn, "Didn't we agree not to inform them yet?"

"I did follow your instructions and didn't notify them, but such a big incident is hard to hide."

Before Mr. Murray could finish his sentence, a large group of people approached them.

"Thaddeus! Where's Thaddeus?" Frederic shouted as he walked towards them.

He rarely showed such concern for his second son. But now, when he knew that his son was critically injured after being hit on the head with an iron rod, he was frantic, his white hair seeming to stand on end!

Elspeth saw Frederic's sudden concern for this illegitimate child and couldn't help but feel irritated. Yet, she had to pretend to be worried and join in the shouting, "Thaddeus! Thaddeus!"

Even Glynnis couldn't bear to watch, making a face behind her.

"What are you shouting for? Are you trying to wake the dead?"

Supported by Evadne and Mr. Murray, Hamilton slowly stood up. Seeing Frederic and his wife, his blood pressure shot up, he couldn't help but feel irritable.

"Dad! How's Thaddeus?" Frederic asked anxiously.

Hamilton replied, "He's still being treated. Your worrying now won't help, sit down and wait!"

"Chairman Emeric! I heard my son is in this condition because he was protecting your daughter, how are you going to explain this?"

Frederic stepped up to Emeric, if not for his reputation as a business tycoon, he would have already grabbed Emeric by the collar!

Cassius quickly stepped in front of his father, "Mr. Frederic, let's talk this out calmly."

"Calmly? If it was Emeric's son lying there, would he be calm?" Frederic was now at odds with the Ashbourne family!

She wanted to rush forward immediately, but her emotions held her back.

Frederic, supporting Hamilton, rushed forward. Seeing her grandpa's trembling legs, Evadne felt a heartache.

"Thaddeus's condition is critical. He's still in danger of losing his life." The doctor's face was gravely serious.

It was as if a thunderbolt had struck the Abernathy family. Hamilton almost collapsed!

Frederic's face turned pale, "How, how could this happen?"

"If Thaddeus's head injury was a first-time occurrence, it would be relatively easier to handle. But when we did a CT scan of his brain, we found an old injury."
