His Ex-Wife Is A Billionaire (Evadne and Thaddeus) novel Chapter 361

Glynnis felt like she was dealing with a madwoman who had made such bold claims.

After all, Thaddeus was the CEO of the Abernathy Group, a power player whose influence was far-reaching. Even Frederic didn’t daunt him; what could the Fairhaven family possibly do?

However, she didn't feel the need to point this out. She'd rather sit back, watch them make a spectacle of themselves and wait for the whole of Elmsworth to laugh at their folly.

"Sure, whatever makes you happy. Here’s to a long and blissful marriage with Thad!” Glynnis said, clutching her aching face, her congratulations grudging.

“By the way, remember when you told me about Mr. Bartley's son? The one who was interested in you, but you didn’t feel the same and turned him down?” Edith suddenly changed the topic.

Mr. Bartley's son? She remembered.

Her mother, Elspeth, had taken her to a golf course to meet the Bartleys. The intention was clear: to introduce her to him.

But the Bartleys didn’t take a liking to her and even Mrs. Bartley, the Mayor’s wife, had wanted to meet her dimwit sister instead. That was a real humiliation!

Later in order not to be debased by others, she had boasted to Edith that the Bartley family were interested in her, but she felt she could do better, so she had asked her mother to reject their proposal.

“Ah, why bring him up all of a sudden?” Glynnis asked, annoyed.

“Oh, nothing much. Just that he’s currently pursuing me,” Edith said, a triumphant laugh escaping her lips.

Glynnis was taken aback. She scoffed, “You’re about to become the CEO’s wife of the Abernathy Group. Surely you wouldn’t give a second thought to the son of a mere mayor, would you?”

“Of course, Thad is the only one for me. So, I turned him down. But he said he really likes me and would do anything for me. Anything!” Edith's laughter grew wilder, a hint of malice seeping through.

“What do you mean? What are you planning?” Glynnis asked, sensing the sinister undertone.

“I want him to marry Marilla.”

Glynnis drew a sharp intake of breath. She was astounded by Edith’s audacity. What kind of a crazy demand was that for a suitor?!

The Fairhaven family had really raised a lunatic!

“You are Marilla’s sister, after all. So, there are certain things that I can’t do and will need your help. To make this marriage happen.”

Edith laughed leisurely, a hint of cunning in her voice, “My family are rich and influential. If Marilla marries into an ordinary family, my brother wouldn’t give up on her. Only if Marilla marries into a powerful family like the Bartleys, will my brother’s hopes be completely dashed, eliminating any chances of them being together.”

What a deep-seated scheme!

“I still remember how you ‘helped’ me last time. Almost landed me in jail, didn’t you?”

Glynnis was livid, her eyes turning red, the pain from her facial wound making her sweat, “And now you want me to help you again. Why should I?!”

“Well, I’m about to become your sister-in-law. Isn’t it important to maintain a good relationship with me?”

Edith drawled, adding, “Besides, Marilla did steal the man you love. You must be holding a grudge, right? Who else could help you get your revenge if not me?”

Glynnis was shocked to the core.

She remembered how she was brutally beaten by that wretch Jareth sent, her eyes filled with tears of anger and fists clenched tight.

Glynnis thought to herself: “Jareth, I love you so much, but you don’t even treat me like a human?!

Well, I guess I’ll just have to make you lose the most important thing in your life to make you understand my pain!”

“Just spit it out! What do you want?”

The affairs of the Abernathy family and Fairhaven family were in a complete mess.

And on the Chamber family’s side, a major disaster had struck, plunging the whole family into a gloomy abyss.

Just two nights ago, during a heavy rain, Byron met with a car accident on his way home from a gathering with friends.

The driver died on the spot, and the bodyguard sitting in the front seat was in critical condition.

Byron, who was sitting in the back seat, escaped death, but ended up with a severe head injury and broken glass shards in his face. Worst of all, his legs were crushed, leaving him permanently disabled.

Jeff had consulted with all the top surgeons in the country, but none could help Byron walk again.

That day, the family sat in the living room, looking gloomy.

Ms. Bertha was weeping inconsolably. Not caring how genuine her tears were, she was putting on a good show, “How could this happen? The road was so even and he always passed there, how could there be an accident? Why did this happen?”

Everyone was low-spirited, except for Avery, who sat aside nonchalantly, his legs crossed, sipping his tea with grace, and said, “Walking down the same road every day doesn’t mean one won’t have an accident. These two things are not contradictory.”

Bertha wiped her tears with handkerchief, giving Avery a sinister look, “You seem to be quite pleased about Byron’s accident. Are you finally satisfied?”

“I wouldn’t say I’m pleased.”

Avery set down his tea, adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses, “I’m just emotionally stable, unlike you, who’s holding a mourning even when no one’s dead.”

Bertha was seething with anger, her eyes reddening and her body trembling.

"Enough! From dawn till dusk, isn't there ever enough arguing?! Byron is in this state, and if you can't think of a way to help your brother, fine, but to stir up trouble?! Do you want to throw our home into more chaos?!" Jeff slammed his hand on the armrest.

Under the fierce rebuke, Bertha flinched, her tears stopped, and she glared ferociously at Avery.

Avery pondered for a moment, then slowly said, "Dad, I have an idea. It might help Byron's condition."

Everyone's attention turned to him.

Jeff's eyes lit up immediately, leaning forward, "Avery! Speak up!"

"Evadne has a dual identity. She's a renowned surgeon. She once performed a complex craniotomy on Thaddeus. She's known in the medical field as 'Dr. Eve'."
