Cassius stood there, his face a mask of impassivity, but inside, a storm was brewing.
Since last night? Until now?
He hadn't slept a wink, guarding the door to his room all through the night.
Just to see him?
As his thoughts settled, Cassius couldn't help but curl his fingers into his palms.
"Cassius, did I do something wrong? Did I say something I shouldn't have? Please, tell me."
Chasel couldn't bear the cold silence any longer. His voice trembled with urgency as he reached to grab Cassius's hand.
But Cassius stepped back sharply, leaving Chasel grasping at air, a chill sweeping over him from head to toe.
"Cassius."
"Dr. Bright."
Chasel's pupils shook. "What did you just call me?"
"Dr. Bright."
Cassius's voice was colder still, as if he had returned to his aloof demeanor as the untouchable heir of the Ashbourne family, "You've been through a lot these past days. My father's condition has stabilized, and you've been in Skyrim for too long. You haven't even been home to see your family. Maybe it's time you did that."
Chasel felt as though a bullet had gone straight through his chest, his hand freezing midair. "Did Aunt Suri say something to you?"
Cassius shook his head. "What does Suri have to do with this? You're overthinking it."
"Then why are you driving me away too?"
Chasel's voice broke into a near sob, tears swirling in his eyes, "Cassius, I don't want to go home. I don't want to go abroad. I want to stay by your side forever. It doesn't matter why, it doesn't matter how, as long as I can be with you. I don't need anything else! I just want you!"
Cassius's eyes reddened, but his voice was unyielding, "Dr. Bright, if you wish to stay longer in Silverlake Harbor, to keep company to Suri, then by all means stay. However, starting tonight, I'll be residing in Elmsworth for a while. The equestrian hotel project back home is about to start, and I'll be very busy, perhaps away on business for an extended period. So, please, make yourself comfortable."
With those words, Cassius turned and walked away, his determination as cold as ice.
Chasel rushed to him, embracing him tightly, tears streaming down his cheeks.
"Cassius, don't you want me anymore?"
Cassius's breath hitched, and his mouth opened slightly, but no words came out.
"Cassius, don't reject me. I'll do anything, just don't ignore me, please."
The once proud and rebellious second son of the Bright family was now begging in front of Cassius, devoid of all dignity, desperate only to hold onto the faint warmth that had captivated him.
