His Ex-Wife Is A Billionaire (Evadne and Thaddeus) novel Chapter 650

"Mr. Thaddeus Abernathy? Mr. Thaddeus Abernathy?"

Alexia tilted her head, her laughter dancing in her eyes, "What's got you so spellbound? Or is there something on my face?"

"Nothing."

Thaddeus abruptly snapped back to reality, a trace of melancholy in his demeanor.

Paloma was his lifesaver. They had fought side by side and escaped death's clutches. Without her, he would never have made it back to Elmsworth to become the sought-after CEO. And he would never have fallen in love with Evadne.

He could never forget Paloma's kindness, and he had never stopped searching for her. But she had vanished without a trace, as if she had evaporated from the world.

Now, Chad mentioned a woman who had worked with Doctor Without Borders in Zenithia. As his heart stirred, his gaze towards Alexia grew complicated.

"If Mr. Thaddeus Abernathy is interested in my story, maybe some other time, or when you visit Mr. Chad Abernathy again, I could share it with you," Alexia offered with a soft, sweet smile.

"You misunderstand. Your experiences simply remind me of someone from my past. That's all," Thaddeus coolly averted his gaze, lifting his teacup with an air of grace.

Alexia bit her lower lip.

"Alright, Alexia, my brother has always been a serious guy. Don't tease him." Chad interjected, changing the subject, "Thaddeus, you've come all this way to see me, and I know it's not just for a visit."

Thaddeus felt a lump in his throat, "Chad, I..."

"Don't worry. You and I are brothers; whatever the reason you're here, I won't hold it against you. Just seeing you again makes me happy." Chad smiled warmly, eyes soft, his words sincere, "Got a problem you want to talk about?"

"Chad, someone very important to me is sick. There's this new drug in the country that can treat his condition, but for the life of me, I can't get my hands on it. I thought of you because of your connections here. You've been friends with William and his son over these years, and I was hoping you could help me to ask some information."

As he spoke, Thaddeus pulled out his phone and showed Chad a photo of the medication, "How can I get this drug?"

Chad asked with a light smile, "This important person, is it Chairman Ashbourne?"

Thaddeus' breath caught in his chest.

Alexia glanced at the screen, "That's a medication for cerebral infarction recovery. Chairman Ashbourne had cerebral infarction?"

Thaddeus' sharp gaze was landed on her face, cold as a blade. Even though Alexia was used to high-pressure situations, that icy look sent a shiver down her spine.

"Thaddeus, don't get the wrong idea about Alexia." Chad sipped his tea, "Even if you hadn't said anything, I'd know you came for the Ashbourne family. The only outsider who could make you so concerned would be someone related to Ms. Ashbourne.

Chairman Ashbourne's secret hospital stays haven't gone unnoticed. You know, in the world of high finance, nothing stays secret for long. Alexia was just making an educated guess."

"In that case, there's no point in hiding it now." Thaddeus set down his teacup after a moment's thought, "I'm here for Chairman Ashbourne's illness. I want to get the medication to him as soon as possible. My love, Evadne, she's withering away worrying about her father. If I do nothing, what kind of man would I be?"

Chad nodded, understanding, "I understand. Your feelings for Ms. Ashbourne are touching. The drug is rare, sure, but over the years, through my taking medicine and treatment, I've made connections in the medical field. I have a friend who can get it. I'll ask them for you."

"Really? That would be incredible!"

Thaddeus' face lit up, "Chad, how can I ever repay you for this favor?"

Chad's eyes gleamed with an unreadable intent, his lips curving slightly, "Although I've been away in the country, I've heard all about how you dote on Ms. Ashbourne, treating her like a treasure. When I return to Elmsworth, if I wanted to befriend Ms. Ashbourne, would you oppose it?"

Thaddeus felt a twinge in his heart, his grip on the teacup white-knuckled.

"Mr. Chad Abernathy, you're putting him in a tough spot. Ms. Ashbourne is his heart's delight. He'd love to lock her away in a golden house if he could. Even if you're his own brother, I doubt he'd willingly share her," Alexia said half-jokingly.

But her words were laced with meaning - it wasn't just Evadne that Thaddeus might be unwilling to share, but power and status, even if Chad was his lifesaver, so what? If the day came when Chad returned to the Abernathy Group and he wanted the power, would Thaddeus really let him have it?

"Alexia, don't be like that." Chad's expression darkening slightly, "Thaddeus is my brother. We grew up together. I know him well."

"Chad, the idea that you want to be Evadne’s friend seems unnecessary to me." Thaddeus said evenly, though his eyes were cool, "Once we're married, she'll be your sister-in-law. Isn't that closer than friends?"

Chad was taken aback, and then smiled, "You have a point."

"As for the medication."

"Why don’t you head back to Elmsworth first? I imagine Ms. Ashbourne might be unable to eat or sleep well without you." Chad showed signs of fatigue and a desire to end the meeting, "I'll get the medication as soon as possible and send someone with it. You trust me, don't you?"

"My brother might occasionally be foolish in matters of the heart, but in all else, he's a genius. With you knowing so little about him and that girl, how could you possibly replace her?"

Chad, sniffing the aroma of his tea, said leisurely, "Your new identity has already made a deep impression on him, stirring endless imagination. Its effect will come into play once we return to Elmsworth."

Alexia nodded, and then asked with surprise, "And this medication, are you really going to give it to Thaddeus? Are you really going to save Emeric? If there's no medication, Emeric's condition will only worsen, and both the Ashbourne family and the K Group will descend into chaos. Isn't that what we want?"

"Would the Chairman's health improve just because he has the medication?"

Alexia gasped, "You mean?"

"Chairman Ashbourne is elderly and stricken with a difficult illness. It's not his first bout with it, and his body isn't what it once was. With or without the medication, what difference would it make? The miraculous effects of such a drug often make people overlook its side effects. But compared to brain death, lingering between life and death, a few side effects seem like a bargain, don't they?"

Chad coughed lightly, his tone casual, "Besides, it gives me a chance to do my brother and Ms. Ashbourne a favor. Why not?"

Thaddeus returned to the hotel unsettled. First, he was anxious about not having the medication in hand; second, the matter of Chad's personal doctor, her history as a Doctor Without Borders in Zenithia, was hard to ignore.

But was that woman really a doctor? Her hands didn't seem like those of a doctor, with nails a bit too long, painted a subtle pink.

"Mr. Thaddeus Abernathy, you seem so distracted. Did Mr. Chad Abernathy give you a hard time?"

Gordon was full of concern, always fearing his boss might be mistreated, "Did he impose any conditions that were hard to accept? Taking advantage of the situation?!"

Thaddeus shook his head slightly, his voice deep, "Gordon, is it common for doctors to use incense or perfume?"

"Uh? Wait a moment, I'll google it."

Gordon hurriedly pulled out his phone and quickly found the answer, "Well, as a rule, medical staff shouldn't use it. Scents can dull the sense of smell, masking the patient's own odors, affecting diagnosis. Pulmonologists, in particular, shouldn't use it as it could trigger sensitivity or an attack in patients."

"Understood," Thaddeus' gaze darkened.

"Mr. Abernathy, what's going on? Why are you suddenly asking about this?"

Thaddeus did not respond, but his curiosity about this woman named Alexia and her true identity grew even more.
