The next afternoon, Thaddeus finally woke up. He'd been having the same dream all night.
He was back on the battlefield of Zenithia. He was assigned a tough mission where he and 50 other comrades snuck into the enemy camp, wiped out the terrorists, and successfully rescued 10 hostages.
Those hardened criminals were armed with heavy guns. There were also just-legal teenagers who had started killing and robbing at the tender age of five.
Blood-soaked sand was like a living hell.
Originally, Thaddeus wasn't on the mission list but he volunteered and became a member of the Shadowguard Legion.
"Young man, are you married?"
"No."
"Why would you want to take on this mission? All of us here have families. If there's a mishap, there's someone to carry on."
At that time, Thaddeus simply laughed, uncaring about life or death.
"I have no burdens, so I have nothing to fear."
The two most important women in his life had both left him one after the other. His heart was already broken to the point of no return, so he wasn't afraid of dying.
In fact, he was more afraid of loneliness.
Later, 49 comrades fought to the death, leaving less than 10 survivors.
Thaddeus was shot and stabbed in the leg, shoulder, and waist. Just when he thought he was going to die, then a girl in a white coat saved him like an angel.
Wearing a thick mask, with a neat short haircut, her white coat was ragged, like an angel in battle.
Her beautiful eyes shone brightly as if they could outshine the sun and the moon.
That woman was Paloma, the lifesaver he had been searching for all these years.
Unexpectedly, after seeing Ilana last night, he dreamed of her again.
Although Ilana and Paloma were two unrelated people, he saw Paloma's shadow in Ilana's eyes, which was really puzzling to him.
Thaddeus rubbed his forehead and found that the headache was completely gone.
At that time, Alva came in with a medicine box.
Seeing Thaddeus awake and looking better, she happily said, "Mr. Thaddeus! Are you awake? How are you feeling today?"
"I'm okay."
Thaddeus tried to sit up and suddenly found out that he had changed into pajamas, which surprised him.
"What's up with these clothes?"
"You disappeared last night and came back all soaked. I helped you change all your clothes."
As Alva spoke, she tidied up the room, "You're already thirty, how come you still can't take care of yourself?"
Thaddeus frowned and touched his hair in annoyance.
Last night, he remembered having a splitting headache. He went to the study for medicine and that was the last thing he could remember of last night's events.
"Alva, did you change my clothes?"
"Who else could it be?"
Thaddeus touched his forehead awkwardly, "Alva, I'm thirty, not thirteen, could you not just change my clothes randomly?"
"Oh, do you think I took advantage of you? I'm old enough to be your mother!" Alva began to boast, "Do you think I enjoy changing your clothes? I've seen you grow from a boy to a man, I'm sick of it!"
Thaddeus was helpless.
"How did you drive your wife away? Now there's no one to take care of you, whose fault is that? If one day I can't take care of you, you'll turn into a wild man with no one to look after you, then you'll be satisfied!"
Alva began to nag, but Thaddeus didn't even have a chance to retort.
"Quick, take off your shirt!"
"What are you up to?" Thaddeus took a step back, as he was surprised to hear that.
Glynnis was in a good mood, so she didn’t want to waste any more time with her and straightened her hair and walked past Marilla.
If she was in a bad mood, she might have stepped on Marilla.
After Glynnis left, Marilla dared to slowly get up from the ground.
Over the years, she'd come to know Glynnis pretty well. Playing the fool and keeping her head down when in Glynnis's presence meant getting yelled at less.
"Marilla!" Alva spotted the situation and rushed over, propping Marilla up with an expression full of concern. "What happened? It's flat ground, how did you hurt yourself?!"
"I'm okay." Marilla pressed her lips together as she described the situation, "I was just being careless."
"I saw Glynnis leaving this place just now, did she push you?!" Alva's eyes turned red with anger as she wanted the truth.
"No, no! I'm fine! I need to go!"
At the mention of Glynnis, Marilla instantly hugged her teddy bear, enduring the pain, and hurried away.
Watching Marilla's pitiful figure leaving, Alva gritted her teeth and sighed.
Jareth took a stroll around the backyard, and as he walked back into the living room, he ran into a beaming Glynnis.
"Mr. Jareth!" Glynnis greeted him with a sweet voice, as sugary as candy, "What brings you here? Are you looking for Thaddeus?"
"Indeed," Jareth replied casually. He was close to Thaddeus and had an understanding of the environment of the Abernathy family better than anyone else.
He was well aware that Elspeth was a cunning woman, hence his cold demeanor towards Glynnis.
But Glynnis didn't see it that way. She thought that she had beauty and a good family background. Plus, she was so straightforward. She was sure Mr. Jareth would be eating out of her hand soon.
So, she pulled her collar lower, straightened her chest, and flirtatiously hung onto Jareth's sturdy arm, puckering her red lips.
"Mr. Jareth, let's go, I'll take you to Thaddeus."
However, the next second, Jareth's eyes turned frosty, his gaze cold as ice.
"Let go of me. Your perfume is too pungent; don't dirty my clothes."
