Chapter 1
My son, Anthony Matthews, accidentally drank a whole glass of white wine at his second birthday party, which resulted in alcohol poisoning.
Edward Matthews broke down on the spot and rushed to the hospital in a frenzy.
He knelt in front of the emergency room door, crying, begging the doctor to save Anthony at all
costs.
Unfortunately, Anthony became senile.
I also encountered a car accident on my way to the hospital, and I narrowly escaped death to save my life.
Six months later, I unintentionally overheard a conversation between Edward and his assistant at
the doorstep of the study.
“Mr. Matthews, you were really ruthless. You even had the heart to harm your own son. When you instructed me to give the child white wine, I almost gave in.”
“And Melanie, she had already suffered enough, and now you want to cause a car accident, seizing the opportunity to transplant her heart to Selene.”
“Artificial hearts had to be replaced every five years. Could you bear to see her living in the pain of constant surgeries for the rest of her life?”
Edward’s voice was hoarse, but unusually determined.
“There was no way, Selena risked her life to give birth to my child despite her heart disease. I couldn’t give her a status, so I could only let her child become the sole heir of the Matthews
family.”
As for Melanie and Anthony, I would keep them for the rest of their lives, only in this way, they would not pose a threat to Selena and her child in the future.
My child could be abandoned at will.
And I was just a sacrificial lamb in his love.
Then I disappeared completely, as he wished.
When the assistant spoke again, there was a hint of pity in his voice.
Mrs. Matthews‘ body was already unable to bear the burden, why did you still coax her to donate blood to Selena?

Edward sighed after a moment of silence.
“I didn’t want to either, but even after Selena had a heart transplant, there was no improvement.
She told me that the doctor said her heart was not receiving enough blood, and that receiving
Melanie’s blood might help a little.”
Tears fell uncontrollably as I remembered how he had suggested taking me to the hospital to donate blood not long ago.
After undergoing a heart transplant, I would occasionally faint and vomit blood, so naturally I dare not easily agree.
But he earnestly persuaded me with his eyes, donating blood was to pray for Anthony’s blessings.
He knew my weak spot too well and understood how to manipulate me.
It is only now that I have come to know that there was no blessing at all. He simply regarded me as a mere blood bag of his beloved.
I tightly covered my mouth, blocking the crying that was about to overflow from my throat.
Even though I didn’t have a heart anymore, I still felt unbearable pain.
The fine glass shards pierced into my foot, causing pain, but it was far less than the pain in my
-heart.
Footsteps could be heard coming from the study.
I covered my chest and stumbled back to my own room.
Looking at Anthony’s sleeping profile, my emotions instantly crumbled.
He had just learned to say “daddy,” but he was made delirious by Edward.
As soon as I thought about him spending the rest of his life in dementia, I couldn’t help but burst
into tears.
After the incident, I blamed myself countless times, blaming myself for not taking good
Anthony.

But I never expected that it was my deeply beloved husband who intentionally ruined himself to pave the way for another woman.
The child was still so young, why did he have to be cruel to this extent?
The love that I considered as my life, was nothing but a joke.
When I lifted my eyes, I met Edward’s terrified gaze.

He smiled as tenderly as always, but his voice trembled slightly.
“Melanie, were you just at the door of my study?”
I did not cover up my wound, I just smiled calmly.
“You have worked hard taking care of Anthony during this time, so I specially made honey almond
oatmeal to serve you.”
“I was clumsy and accidentally broke it. I didn’t want to bother you because I was afraid you
worry.”
He let out a sigh of relief and reached out to embrace me.
“Fool, how did you let yourself end up like this? I would have been so heartbroken!”
He picked up my feet without any disgust, and the pain in his eyes didn’t seem fake.
