Chapter 6 

Edward snapped out of it and suddenly let go. 

He stared absentmindedly at Selena’s swollen cheeks and her neck, which had been squeezed to a 

bluish–purple color. 

A sudden pang of heartache flashed through the bottom of my eyes. 

But it wasn’t because of Selena, it was because of me. 

He raised his hand and gave himself two slaps, muttering to himself. 

How could I bring myself to lay a hand on Melanie and Anthony, when I had already taken everything away from them? 

He was full of despair, constantly tearing at his own hair. 

Seeing this, Selena struggled to get up and slapped him across the face, grabbing his hand. 

“Edward, if you were upset, you could just hit me, it’s okay, I can endure any grievances for you!” 

“But Dexter is still so young, today Melanie even dared to lay hands on him in front of me, and that Anthony, he scratched Dexter’s face.” 

“After I was no longer by his side, they, the mother and son, didn’t know how to bully Dexter yet!” 

“If you can’t bear to part with Melanie, then Dexter and I will leave, I promise never to appear in front of Melanie again, is that okay?” 

What she said was sincere and heartfelt, which inevitably moved Edward a little. 

Selena took the opportunity to push the child in front of him and said with a touch of sadness. 

“Dexter, say goodbye to your father. No matter how our lives as mother and son turn out, we will never bother him again!” 

Dexter pouted and started crying loudly. 

“I didn’t want to leave my dad, no, I didn’t!” 

Edward also welled up with tears and embraced Dexter, patiently comforting him. 

“Okay, if Dexter didn’t want to leave, he would stay with his dad.” 

Selena hurriedly snuggled up to him, putting on a sympathetic look.

Edward hesitated for a moment, but in the end, he reached out his hand and pulled her into his 

arms. 

Just when Selena thought she had the victory in her hands, the silent assistant stood up. 

A trace of resentment flashed in his eyes, and he clenched his fist without mercy as he spoke. 

“Mr. Matthews, just now when I went to check Mrs. Matthews‘ whereabouts, the hotel sent a surveillance footage.” 

He took out his own phone, opened the video, and handed it to Edward. 

Edward’s originally relaxed expression darkened once again. 

The video clearly showed that it was not me who laid hands on Dexter. 

But he didn’t hesitate and chose to believe Selena. 

As soon as I remembered him slapping me and my teary eyes. 

Edward’s heart ached terribly. 

He trembled and threw the phone, smashing it onto Selena’s face. 

“Is this what you said, Melanie and Anthony bullied Dexter?”
