Axel suddenly lifted his head.
His eyes were bloodshot, and his whole body couldn’t help but sway for a moment. He leaned against the wall and asked again, “Can you repeat what you just said?”
The doctor, not understanding, had no choice but to repeat, “Mrs. Sweeney’s hearing has been restored for half a month. Today was supposed to be the follow–up day, but she didn’t come. When you go back, remember to remind her to come for the follow–up.”
Axel stood there blankly for a few seconds.
Suddenly, he grabbed the doctor’s collar and said, “Why didn’t you tell me? Why didn’t you tell me
earlier?”
The doctor was frightened by his ferocious appearance. “Mr. Sweeney, calm down a bit. It was Mrs. Sweeney who said she wanted to tell you in person. Didn’t she…?”
Halfway through the conversation, the doctor looked at Axel in astonishment as he slumped to the ground, like a fish with its bones removed, completely dejected.
Half a month, that is to say, he called me that night in Aflon with Elliana. It wasn’t because I missed him, but because I couldn’t wait to share with him the joy of regaining my hearing.
But what did he do? He was using his phone and playing the most exciting game.
I listened to him and another woman being affectionate and intimate for a full half hour.
He closed his eyes tightly, suddenly got up and rushed towards the villa in a frenzy.
All the way, he had only one thought in his mind, “As long as I could forgive him, he’s willing to exchange anything, even if it meant losing everything he had, or even risking his life.”
He could explain that he was just playing with Elliana, and that her child was also born for us. The person he loved from beginning to end was only Meredith.
His honey loved him so much that she could even give up her life for him.
As long as he explained to me well and repented to me.
I am such a softhearted person, he believed that I would definitely not be willing to blame him and would forgive him.
His heart was filled with hope, but as soon as he pushed open the door of the villa, the chilling air forced him to cool down from head to toe.
The empty house resembled a foreshadowing of an impending outcome.
Axel felt as if his feet were filled with lead, weighing him down heavily. He slowed down his movements and walked towards the bedroom.
Just like countless times before, she gently called out, “Honey, husband is back.”
There was no familiar smile to greet.
The only response to him was boundless silence.
And in the chest, the heart, beating fast as if it was about to burst out, due to fear and anxiety.
He went crazy and burst open the doors of every room.
There was nothing, absolutely nothing.
Everything related to me, not a trace can be found, as clean as I am, as if it never existed.
Just at that moment, on the coffee table in the living room, a few things caught his attention.
He almost crawled and rolled over to get there.
One box, it was the “pregnancy–saving medicine” he got from the doctor.
Underneath the “abortion pill” lies a signed divorce agreement and a certificate of miscarriage.
Axel was struck by lightning.
I knew it all, I heard it all.
I heard how he conspired with the doctor, abandoned our child, and removed my uterus, making another woman’s child the successor of the Sweeney Group.
I heard how he and another woman, in our carefully crafted home, were behaving outrageously to
the point of being unbearable.
