Chapter 268
Elena
“Come on, just work along for once!” Tori scolded me as she forced her nose underneath my armpits.
I could hardly believe that I was just an hour away from meeting the potential love of my life, Marvin. It was already surprising that a goody-two-shoes like me was able to look past all the charges so that I could be with him.
What if he would bail on me?
What if this was just one of his stupid jokes?
“You smell like roses. Let’s keep it that way.” Tori smiled as she placed her hands on my shoulder. She had stopped by my house to do my makeup because apparently. I sucked at it. Usually, I would complain, but this time I didn’t mind it at all.
I wanted to look good for Marvin, and I wanted to show him that I was the exact person from the pictures. “Will you be able to do this on your own tomorrow?” Victoria asked.
I gave her a confident nod. “For the wedding? Yes, of course.”
The wedding was the least important thing on my mind as all I could think of was Marvin. It was a good thing that my dad and my brother weren’t at home today because I was not in the mood for any questions.
What would I even tell them?
Oh, no big deal. I’m just going out to meet my former criminal crush, but don’t you guys worry-he said he was wrongfully convicted.
“Can I see one last picture of him?” Tori almost begged me. “I just want to see if this Marvin is worth the
effort.”
I rolled my eyes with a slight smirk on my face and pulled out my phone. Marvin was a catch, and I had no problem showing him off. I showed Tori the picture and watched as she squinted her eyes. “Yes, he’s definitely worth the effort.” She chuckled.
“He looks familiar…it’s almost as if I’ve seen him before.”
“Well, unless you’ve been to prison-I honestly don’t think that’s the case.” I laughed at her crazy comment. Besides that, there weren’t any people like him. The only person who even came close was one of our clients, Santiago-and he was getting married.
“Anyway, I really have to go.” Victoria hugged me. “My dad and I have to visit this guy we have to defend, and you have a date to get to.”
“It’s not a date.” I blushed. “And you should go because I have this really bad stress poop, and the house won’t be safe for a couple of hours.”
“Gosh.” Victoria pulled a disgusted face. “Please make sure not to mention any of this stuff to Marvin, and please try to behave more…human.”
“But pooping is human!”
“Yes, I’m just going to leave,” Victoria spoke in a hurry. It wasn’t long before she left the house while I went to take a dump. I was very serious about my visit to the toilet, and it was necessary. The worst thing I could do was a fart in Marvin’s presence.
After a short drive, I was at the bridge just as he requested. Okay, I wasn’t exactly on the bridge, but I had my reasons for that. I wanted to see Marvin first and make sure he wasn’t the one who had been cat- fishing me, so I knelt behind a nearby stone and waited for the time to pass.
I felt my heart rise at every person who walked the bridge and could almost jump out of joy after they continued walking. It was a good sign and proof of my hope that Marvin wasn’t a catfish.
“Come on, where are you.” I let out a huff and closed my eyes, but everything had changed when I opened them. I noticed a man from a distance and knew immediately that it was the person I had been waiting for.
Marvin…
“Un-fucking-believable!” I slammed my hands in front of my mouth and raised my head a little, so I could take another peek at him, Marvin.
My legs felt numb, and I could not find the power or the courage to walk up to him. He was literally there, and I couldn’t do it.
I came here with a clear mind and was so confident to walk up to him, but seeing him in real life was different. He looked just like in the pictures, or no-who was I kidding? He seemed even more handsome than he did in the pictures.
