His Reluctant Luna novel Chapter 53

Lucian got a call from Daniel, Alpha of the red pack, early one morning. They had a rogue attack. The rogues had advanced weapons which had hit some of their highest ranking Betas. Bullets don't work on werewolves unless they were silver. Such bullets were expensive and hard to obtain. The rogues used normal bullets laced with poison.

The wolves suffered hours of agony as the poison spread in their bloodstream. They were able to control its spread, but it could be deadly if given in significant quantity.

"Could it be the same poison which was used on your mom ?" I asked Lucian, stunned.

I didn't realize how much Regina could have been helping them. It was hard to process.

"It's possible, though we'll have to test those poisons and prepare an antidote if possible," Lucian told me.

I paced inside our bedroom, while Lucian sat on the bed staring out over the forest.

"Aunt Flora, she can help, ask Daniel to send us the blood samples and any stray bullets," I asked Lucian finally.

" Did they harm Lenora or Daniel?

"No, their pack is big and pretty secure, they could not penetrate inside, but they are daring to attack big packs now."

Lucian started to pace as I sat down heavily, but he continued to talk.

"Daniel had them followed, they met with some of Daniel's younger pack members. They were paid in cash. The wolves were questioned back at the den, Daniel forced it out of them. They had been contacted by the rogue, they wanted to get rid of some higher-ranking wolves to rise in the rank."

I sat in stunned silence for a moment.

"They wanted to harm their pack? Did they find out the rogue's hideouts?"

"Yes, Daniel had them raided. If they knew about Regina, they took it to their graves."

Lucian stopped pacing for a moment, and the fury on his face was indefinable.

"We need to keep an eye on our pack members, I hate to do this but, if Danial can be betrayed, then so can we."

"You are right," I admitted.

No wonder the attacks had seemed so random and chaotic. There was no Alpha among the rogues. Moreover, they were doing it for just profit. But why?

"So rogues are doing this for just money?" I asked.

"No, it's just another way for them to earn some bucks. You see building a pack with an aim of overpowering others, needs money, they are doing all sorts of things for that. Selling Alpha females, capturing females to breed, break-ins. Anything. Which also means they are desperate. We must be on the offensive. We need to start raiding them soon." Lucian explained.

I stopped stroking his arms and watched his face. Anger, embarrassment, distrust, and fear were all there.

"What's going on in your mind ?'

"This pack is too large, there are too many to watch. People have gone rogue before, what if they go rogue again?" he said, sounding defeated.

I could understand his insecurity. He had been betrayed by his father's beta.

I held his arm.

"Do you have your doubts on anyone?"

He thought for a moment, "No," he finally said.

"Everyone seems closer than ever. No one wants to see harm come to the pack."

"Let's keep our plans top secret, increase our defences which we are already doing and go on the offensive, that's all we can do for now. Meanwhile, let me talk to aunt Flora for the antidote and tracking Regina." I said.

One of the first steps for security or to update the current security systems. Lucian went, as far as to make the windows bullet resistant.

Not all packs were that rich or lucky.

Once the blood samples arrived, they were taken directly to aunt Flora. The pack was on an almost perpetual lockdown. No one came or went without checking. Our every move was monitored for our safety.

I was returning from the gym where there was a training session for all the females when I saw Lucian's warriors running out, laced with weapons.

"What's going on?" I asked one of the warriors.
