Alice -
After meeting Rossi girls and convincing them to join the training, I returned with Katherine. Lucian and I needed to talk. If Gregory's brother had escaped, he could be a potential threat.
"You seem upset," Katherine said while I drove back to the packhouse.
"I am feeling bad about the humiliation and fear those girls went through. I haven't tried reaching out to the new pack members. Things were so busy in the last year that they slipped off my mind. I feel like a failure." I lamented.
"Don't say that, Alice. You have been the perfect, Luna. There has always been, and will always be such packs. When the Alphas turn out to be crazy, the pack suffers. My parents belonged to such a pack. "
"I thought you always lived here!" I exclaimed, turning to face Katherine.
"I was born here, but my parents were from the now decimated Blue-star pack. Their Alpha was weird. They had many rules around ranking. Mating with humans was forbidden. If any higher-ranking female had a lower ranking mate. They wouldn't be allowed to stay together. My mother was a high-ranking beta, and my father a low-rank Omega. When they imprinted on each other, they were forbidden from mating. It didn't work. Mating pull increases when the mates are forced to stay apart. So, they beat and tortured them, assuming this would break their bond. My mother was forced to mate with another high-ranking beta. It broke her heart."
"That's so terrible, I am sorry to hear that, Katherine." I gasped.
"Then there was a rouge attack and my mother's former mate died in the attack. My parents decided to elope. After months of wandering, they were accepted into the Crimson Shadow pack. It was under Lucian's grandfather at that time. And that is how I ended up here."
" I am glad your parents had a happy ending."
"Yes, but not everyone gets a second chance. It's Unfortunate, that the black stone's alpha was a lousy man."
"He was a piece of shit!" I said angrily, I couldn't get over him trying to own me.
"I will talk to Lucian and discuss how to deal with those traumatized girls." I decided.
************
"Hey, ma petite," Lucian broke into a smile as soon as I had entered the living area of our home.
"I thought you were training with the pups," I replied, plopping down next to him on the plush couch.
"Yeah, I was there, and it seemed like they were all having fun beating each other up. Since you were upset and all by yourself, I decided to have you join me for an early lunch here. The weather is great for a picnic. I've got all your favourites." Lucian grinned.
"How thoughtful, yes I am upset. Those girls..... I wish I could help them." I said dejectedly.
Lucian wrapped his hand around me, rubbing my arm in a soothing gesture.
"Did you know Gregory's brother escaped?" I asked.
He froze, and his features seemed to have hardened.
"I know, but there is a limitation to what we can do. I have secured our pack to the best of my abilities. We'll deal with any further problems together. Now, can we proceed to our picnic?"
He enticed me by sending a vision of a wicker basket kept open on one end of the checkered blanket with a lavish spread of food under the sheltering canopy of a tall fig tree.
"Wow! You've convinced me. Just let me clean up first." I laughed.
Lucian chuckled, "I knew you'd agree to come."
We entered the woods and soon reached a spread blanket, full of scrumptious delights.
"When did you get all this done?" I turned towards Lucian.
"I am an Alpha, all I have to do is send a command." He wore a grin.
I laughed.
"I love it when you use your Alpha authority for arranging things like these," I said, admiring the spread.
He ran his appreciative emerald eyes over me, making me blush, which was quite weird. There was nothing he had never seen before. Dressed in a black tee and slacks, he exuded raw sexuality that never failed to make me want him.
There'd be time to satisfy this carnal hunger. The sensuous glint in his eyes indicated that he was as famished for me as I was for him.
