Hitched & Hitched Again: A Comedy of Marital Mayhem novel Chapter 1068

Even a few guys, hoping to curry favor with Carl, went after Clayton, giving Carl the perfect chance to land a few good punches.

The brawl didn't end until Carl was too exhausted to throw another punch, collapsing on the ground, gasping for breath.

Clayton was clearly defeated, blood dripping from the corner of his mouth.

He couldn't fathom Carl's reasoning behind the fight, especially since he never thought his own brother, whom he shared a mother with, would actually want him dead.

Nor did he suspect their mother's disappearance had anything to do with his brother.

Worried about his mother, he wiped the blood from his lips, shot Carl a furious look, and headed towards the elevator, determined to confront the shareholders about his mother.

But—

He didn't even get a chance to see the shareholders before their bodyguards gave him a thorough beating.

Alone and outnumbered, he didn't stand a chance against the group assault and was quickly left lying on the ground, unable to get up.

The shareholders, confident that the upcoming board meeting would go their way, had become brazen in their actions against Clayton.

After the beating, one of the bodyguards threw a warning at Clayton:

"Our boss says if you want Betty to stay out of trouble, you'd better stay away from messing with Hawkins Sea-freight. You know what he means."

Clayton, still at the helm of Hawkins Sea-freight, held the fate of the company in his hands.

They were worried he might, in a fit of rage, donate Hawkins Sea-freight to the government before the board meeting, as a way to retaliate.

That's why they kidnapped Betty, to send a clear threat to Clayton.

After roughing him up, the bodyguards called hospital security, accusing Clayton of causing a disturbance.
