How the Ice King Became my Doting Billionaire Husband novel Chapter 438

The bear couldn't get in, and Edmund Thompson had finished tending to all of Stuart Hetfield's wounds.

But soon, he noticed something was amiss with Stuart.

His body was covered in injuries, he had lost a lot of blood, and there were signs of possible poisoning.

The remedies Edmund had on hand were just makeshift concoctions made from nearby plants, not comprehensive at all.

He could only use herbs to stop Stuart's bleeding and employ a few acupuncture needles he carried to try and control the toxins.

Once he completed these makeshift treatments, he leaned casually against the cave wall and dozed off.

It seemed like even if the sky were to fall, he wouldn’t care. If it comes to it, death was just death. He wasn't afraid of it. Though getting mauled by a bear did sound like a rather ghastly way to go.

Stuart was jolted awake by the sound of a heavy thud.

As he stirred, he immediately tried to sit up and check what was happening.

Yawning, Edmund said nonchalantly, "Don't bother looking. It's just the bear banging at the mouth of the cave. I wonder why this bear is so persistent. Is this whole forest so barren that we're the only snacks around?"

Stuart struggled to sit upright. "I think I have a fever."

Edmund yawned again and nodded. "You've been through too much. The environment for bandaging was far from sterile. Even with the antibiotics, some wounds got infected. You can take some fever reducers, but they won’t do much. The infection will make your fever spike again, and that bite on your left arm, where the bone's visible, needs stitches. It won't heal properly as it is."

Fever from the infection.

Stuart’s thoughts inexplicably drifted to Morwenna Winslet.

Back when an infection had caused him a fever from a wound on his back, it was she who stayed by his side.

Thinking of Morwenna, Stuart rasped, "I can't die."

"Whether you can die or not isn't up to you. The two of us, old and injured, can’t take on the bear. Besides, whether it's our blood or the bear's, the scent could attract other predators. Our only hope is if someone comes to rescue us or if another beast lures the bear away. Hey, kid, did you tell anyone you were coming out here alone?"

Stuart remained silent.

He had left in a hurry, informing no one, trusting no one enough to watch his back. No one would be coming to rescue him.

Suddenly, a thought struck him. He quickly pulled out his phone and activated the GPS.
