Morwenna was drunk. Completely, utterly drunk, as if she never wanted to wake up again.
When Norbert Hetfield closed his eyes for the last time, Morwenna had the same urge to close hers and escape reality. Anyone who knew Morwenna would struggle to understand this scene. She was usually so strong and vibrant—how could she appear so fragile now?
But strength needs support, and when the pillar inside collapses, so does the defense of the heart.
As long as Norbert was around, no matter how exhausted or bullied Morwenna felt, she endured. But now, Norbert Hetfield was leaving forever.
Morwenna had held on for too long and was too weary.
The room was filled with bodyguards and doctors. Earlier, they had watched Morwenna and Norbert whispering, and then they drank something together. Norbert, in his state, could hardly drink anything, so they left them alone.
It became eerily quiet.
Too quiet.
Norbert lay on the bed with his eyes closed, and Morwenna was slumped at the bedside, also with her eyes shut.
Finally, a bodyguard sensed something was wrong and hurried to inform Phineas Hetfield.
Phineas rushed in, alarmed, fearing the worst for both of them.
He still had plans for these two. He was about to take over the Hetfield family, and as much as he wished the old man would pass, it needed to wait a few days. Morwenna, on her own, wasn't particularly valuable, but she meant something to Stuart. It would be ideal if Stuart never returned, but if he did and found Norbert dead and Morwenna in distress, that madman might go to extremes.
Truth be told, Phineas had always feared Stuart. Over the years, he had watched that once-abused child grow strong and capable, someone who could now easily overpower him. Even when Phineas thought he had everything under control, he feared what Stuart might do if pushed too far.
"What are you all standing around for? Save them!" Phineas barked.
