A few seconds passed after that terrible pressure had fallen upon him, and in those brief moments, it dissipated. There was no longer any pressure; everything was perfectly normal—except for the minds of those who had felt it.
It took a while before the old man, much like the woman outside who had fainted just a few steps in front of the stairs, awoke. But when he did, the very first thing he attempted was to listen for any sound coming from the room; the old man soon realized that the terrifying beast that had been there had vanished as quickly as it had appeared.
Noticing that it was apparently no longer there, the old man rose and began to wipe away the blood streaming from his ears and nostrils—the pain that spread through his body at that moment was beyond measure or explanation. Soon after he finished cleaning, still hearing or feeling nothing coming from inside the room—not even near the house—the old man carefully walked toward the chamber, enduring agony with every step.
Upon entering the room, he fixed his gaze on the bed and noticed that a large part of it was frozen. Then he saw Noah's body lying on the floor beside it. Despite the pain wracking his entire body, he quickened his steps toward the bed, relieved that he could still hear the trembling breath of the young one.
Placing his hand on her chest, and after closing his eyes for a few moments to steady his own breathing, he regulated the flow of Qi within his body.
Sigh...
Then he looked around, his expression one of utter surprise and disbelief, as he wondered how all of this had come to pass here. Part of the ceiling was completely burned, as was part of the room. Yet another section of the ceiling was almost entirely frozen—as was much of the rest of the space.
The old man directed his gaze toward Noah, lying beside the bed, and thought:
'...What did you do in this place...?'
He bent down and placed his right index finger just in front of Noah's nose to see if he was still alive.
'...It seems I wasn't the only one who kept some secrets... But... if that boy managed to do something that even he could never have imagined—something we once believed was impossible... how terrifyingly powerful might he become in the future? Or rather... how monstrous is he already...?'
He picked Noah up in his arms, stood up, and slowly walked to the other side of the bed. As he thought, 'Maybe he'll be able to do this better than I can... not today, but perhaps someday,' the old man carefully laid Noah down beside the girl.
Darkness suddenly arose, and somehow Noah found himself conscious. Yet, by no means could such an inhospitable place be real—it had to be somewhere else.
"..."
"What the hell... where am I...?" Noah asked as he awoke in a place enveloped by complete darkness.
