My heart thunders, but I don’t move as I stare up at him and he slowly removes his hand from my mouth. 

He pauses, and his eyes snap up, his good eye burning into mine. 

“It’s the only way,” he whispers, tossing the dagger onto the bed and probing into my arm with his fingers. 

My eyes sting as I try not to let out any sound, nodding to show my 

understanding. For a second, he searches my eyes before returning his attention.

I clench my teeth tightly, biting down on the cloth as he probes around in my arm for the chip.
