“I came to see you,” Eva replied. 

She walked over and sat across from him at his gesture. The 

two of them looked at each other, like relatives who hadn’t seen each other for long, and their eyes gradually turned red. 

“Ryan, how have you been in the past year?” Eva broke the silence in a caring tone as if she were talking to her brother. 

“I’ve been doing okay,” Ryan replied, closing the book in his hand and placing it on the nearby table. He then raised his 

hand to have someone make tea for Eva. 

“People in the Imperial Capital are used to drinking tea. Would you like a cup of tea?” he asked. 

“That’s fine.” Eva nodded. What she drank wasn’t important; 

what mattered was being able to see Ryan again.

Eva understood. She took the cup and paused for a while.
