While Eudora was chatting with Mae and Sandra in the hospital ward, she received a call from John.
Eudora went out to answer the phone. "John?"
"Eudora, are you home now?" John asked and then immediately added, "I mean your hometown."
"No, I'll be back tomorrow."
"I'll go with you. I'm on vacation, too. And I haven't been home in a long time, so we can go back together."
"That's great. Or I'd feel lonely on the way back alone."
"How about we have dinner together tonight?"
"Sure."
"Okay. See you later then."
The two agreed on a time before hanging up the phone.
Eudora put away her phone, and before she entered the ward, she saw Mae walking out and standing outside the intensive care unit. Through the glass wall, Mae looked inside with anticipation and distress.
Colton talked to the hospital, and Mae was allowed to stay in the general ward next to the intensive care unit, which was convenient for her to look after the child.
Eudora sighed sadly, walked over, and said to Mae, "Even if your mother-in-law is angry, she shouldn't hurt you and the child. I suggest that you should call the police and make a record."
"Exactly. Eudora is right."
Sandra echoed, "This time, if you don't call the police and give them a shock, there will definitely be a next time."
Mae leaned against the window, staring unblinkingly at the child inside, crying unceasingly.
After hesitating for a while, she nodded. "Okay."
She turned around, pursed her lips, looked at Eudora, clasped her hands together cautiously, lowered her head, and said in a choked voice, "Ms. Stanford, It was all my fault before. If you hadn't helped me so much, I really don't know what to do."
"You are welcome. It's nothing."
Eudora comforted Mae and said, "Take good care of the child and yourself. I'm still waiting for you to come back and help me."
"Okay, I will." Mae was grateful.
In the evening, Eudora arrived at the restaurant where John had agreed to meet her as scheduled.
And John had already been there before she arrived.
Eudora smiled embarrassedly. "Sorry for keeping you waiting."
"It doesn't matter. I just got here."
