Shen Shixiu’s eyes were filled with rage. He glared at Shen Qianan as if they were going to shred her into bits.

Shen Qianan was intimidated by the terrifying look on Shen Shixiu’s face. The howling wind outside brought a gush of hot air into the car through the window. In an instant, Shen Qianan felt as if she had plummeted into hell.

She straightened her back. Her eyes were trembling with horror and a bit of grit.

Shen Shixiu cackled all of a sudden. “Who the hell do you think you are?”

Shen Qianan shuddered. “How do you think Fu Chengyan will react if he knows you like Shi Nuan?”

“What do you think?” Shen Shixiu’s eyes swept at Shen Qianan disdainfully. “You think he can do anything to me?”

Shen Qianan bit her lips while Shen Shixiu looked in another direction. “You have no right whatsoever to comment on my feelings for Shi Nuan!”

“Shen Shixiu, you’re afraid too, right? I never thought that you are such a pretentious man. I look very much the same as Shi Nuan. Do you not hate her whenever you look at her, just like how you hate me?”

“How can I ever hate her?” Shen Shixiu sneered, “Sure, you guys might look the same, but what matters is on the inside.”

“What do you mean?” Shen Qianan’s face was pale.

Shen Shixiu rolled his eyes at Shen Qianan. “It means while she has a heart of gold, yours is made of coal.”

“Mr. and Ms. Shen, we’ve reached the hotel.”

Jiang Zhan parked the car in front of the hotel’s entrance. He turned his head to look at Shen Shixiu and Shen Qianan and noticed the crackling tension in the air. He coughed dryly. “It’s about time for dinner. Do you guys want to dine in the hotel or…”

“I am not eating!”

Shen Qianan cranked open the doors forcefully and stormed off with Yu with so much haste as if she were running away from Shen Shixiu like he was infected with a pandemic.

“Mr. Shen?” Jiang Zhan stared at Shen Shixiu in the backseat, whose eyes were fixated on Shen Qianan as she marched into the hotel. He paused for a second before speaking, “Mr. Shen, perhaps you should tell Ms. Shen…”

Shen Shixiu’s hateful eyes darted at Jiang Zhan and immediately the driver went silent. Jiang Zhan then got off the car and opened the door for Shen Shixiu. “Sir, are you eating at the hotel?”

“You head up first. Order some food for her.”

Jiang Zhan nodded and gave Shen Shixiu the car keys. “Sir, where are you going? It’s getting late.”

Shen Shixiu did not reply to his driver. He got onto the driver’s seat and drove off. Jiang Zhan was stumped. A few seconds later, he turned around and walked in the direction of the hotel’s entrance.

Shen Shixiu drove to the Emerald Garden and pulled up somewhere nearby. He rolled down the window and had his eyes fixated on it.

Not long after, another car drove past his car and also stopped near the Emerald Garden. A woman got off the car. From so far away, Shen Shixiu couldn’t see the face of the woman. Yet, he could tell who she was from her movements and her outfit.

Shen Shixiu furrowed his brows and had one arm hanging on the window. He tapped on the rim of the window rhythmically. The woman opened the gates and strode into the house. She had two assistants with her. Shen Shixiu smiled and dialed a number on his phone. “Help me check how long is Shu Qing planning to stay in the country.”

Shen Shixiu hung up the call. He spent a few more minutes sitting outside of the Emerald Garden before leaving.

At Fu Chengyan’s place.

After Shen Qianan left with despondence, Shi Nuan froze in her place. There was a hint of despair in her eyes.

Fu Chengyan held Shi Nuan by her arm and took her to the sofa. “When did you wake up?”

Shi Nuan tilted her head to one side. After a while, she replied, “I think a little while after Shen Qianan arrived.”

“Then did you hear everything?” Fu Chengyan pinched Shi Nuan’s little finger. His mind seemed to be blank, “Hmm?”

Shi Nuan nodded. “I almost heard everything you guys said.” Shi Nuan contemplated for a while before she continued, “So… you were actually using Shen Qianan back then?”

Even though Shi Nuan was not fond of Shen Qianan, she had mixed feelings about her when she saw the dejected look on her face just now.

Fu Chengyan didn’t respond but his expression said everything.

Shi Nuan didn’t know exactly what she was feeling. But in any case, she knew she wasn’t in the place to understand how Shen Qianan felt. Shi Nuan was aware that she wasn’t Shen Qianan. Thus, she would never understand her train of thoughts. However, Shi Nuan felt that she would also be devastated if she were in Shen Qianan’s shoes.

Fu Chengyan’s gaze shifted to Shi Nuan. He noticed the disconcerting look on her face and sighed. “Did I scare you?”

He continued as Shi Nuan kept mum, “Do you think I am not supposed to treat her the way I treated her?”

Shi Nuan shook her head. “I don’t know.”
