Ice and Fire novel Chapter 642

Violet searched each ward of the inpatient department, looking for Roger's ward. She knew she'd found it when she saw Carol standing in front of a door, looking at her. Violet walked over to Carol.

In a low voice, Violet said,"Mrs. Carol."

"I think we need to talk about my son!" Carol said reproachfully while glaring at Violet with loathing. Carol was determined to drive this woman from her son at all costs.

"Okay, Mrs. Carol, what's on your mind?" replied Violet calmly.

"How much it will take for you to leave my son alone?" Carol asked, not mincing words. This woman standing in front of Carol had horrible taste in clothes, which seemed to scream she was from a low-income family. Since she'd been toying with Carol's son, what else could she want, except money?

Taken aback by the outrageous question, Violet gave Carol an incredulous look and asked,"What do you mean by that, Mrs. Carol?"

"Stop pretending! The only reason you got close to my son is for money, right? So, how much do you want? I'll give it to you, as long as you promise, you will never see my son again," Carol responded.

After listening to Carol, Violet felt a mix of emotions. She wasn't surprised anymore, instead, Violet was relieved, but, somewhat angry at Carol's audacity. She had suffered all sorts of trouble to have an ordinary life, and Violet wasn't about to allow anyone to injure her dignity. As for money? How could Carol think GR Group was JC Group's parallel? The JC Group was worth far more than the GR Group! It was rather annoying that Carol would think Violet was after money, and insulting of her to offer any!

Drawing herself up straighter, Violet defended herself saying,"Mrs. Carol, I think you're mistaken! I don't want even a penny from your family."

Carol looked surprised at Violet's words. But, she could tell from Violet's expression, she wasn't lying. The self-confidence Violet exuded made Carol unsure of her judgment.

"I received my position at the GR Group through campus recruitment, and my job has nothing to do with Mr. Roger. I can tell you, Mrs. Carol, that I don't love Mr. Roger and that we are not involved," Violet stated firmly. She thought a second, and added,"The person I love has been abroad, but he will be returning home soon. Don't worry about my relationship with Mr. Roger, because it's just a waste of your time."

Feeling relieved at Violet's statement, Carol thought, 'It's perfect that she has a boyfriend! Judging by her determination, she must love him very much. Then she won't be bothering my son anymore.'

"I'm glad to hear that," replied Carol coolly, making a show of her satisfaction.

Violet wanted to change the topic, and thought a few seconds before she said,"Mrs. Carol, I'm sorry Mr. Roger was injured for saving me, so, please, allow me to make amends by taking care of him in the hospital. After Mr. Roger is discharged from the hospital, I will go formally leave my position at the GR Group."

"Are you sure?" Carol stared at Violet in surprise. She would allow Violet to look after her son as long as Violet was willing to leave her son alone for good after that. Carol hoped Violet would never go near her son in the future.

"Yes, I'm sure," replied Violet. When Violet thought about how kind Roger was to her, she didn't want to hurt him. She knew Roger loved her very much even if she didn't love him, and that it would cause trouble for them both if she continued working with him. So, her leaving was the best way, to keep Roger safe.
