Three days later, Selina received a phone call from Jackson's associate, Bobby Li, telling her that the Shen Group had disappeared from the city.
She stood in front of the French window and stared at the hustle and bustle of the city. She was worried about Harrison. He had led the Shen Group for many years and now had to see it suddenly collapse under Jackson's order. He did not do anything wrong by bidding for the project, after all, the competition was common in the business area. His failure only owed to Jackson whim to crush the Shen Group.
Suddenly, her phone rang. Selina glanced at the phone number before she answered it.
"Hello, Selina speaking."
"Selina, can you believe who I just saw?" Selina's friend Lori Liu was at the other side of the phone. She sounded anxious.
"Tell me, " said Selina without any hint of excitement.
Lori Liu could hardly wait to answer. "I had gone for a spa and saw your friend Jackson's girlfriend, Sally!"
"And?" Selina stared blankly into thin air. There must be something fishy, or Lori Liu would not have called her.
"She was on a date with a man." Lori Liu came straight to the point.
Selina's expressions changed. Her grip on her phone tightened. How could Sally cheat on Jackson? Jackson had treated her so well in the last five years. Why would she do that?
"Are you sure they were on a date?" Selina had to make sure that the information was reliable.
"Yes, " said Lori Liu firmly. "Sally was sitting there, chatting with the man for almost three hours at a corner table. I couldn't get close enough to find out what they were talking about."
Selina hung up, her eyes burning with rage. She thought to herself, 'That is so unfair! Jackson had done so much for Sally in all these years, even though they were not married. How dare she cheat on Jackson? If I find it out to be true, I will show her no mercy.'
Without wasting any time, she made a call.
"Miss Selina."
"Investigate Sally secretly. I don't want anyone to know about this. Do it as discreetly as you can, or else...! will..." Selina's warning was clear and severe. Her voice sounded angry and serious. She meant the threat.
"Yes."
At the airport
A woman in a gorgeous sapphire dress stood, attracting a lot of attention. Many men could not take their eyes away from her.
"Mommy, this is a bad city. I don't like it." Joe Shen pouted as he exited the airport. He saw modern buildings and busy roads interlocked in front of him, and yet, he missed the west where he had been living for five years.
Cherry paid little attention to Joe Shen. Instead, she spoke to the man beside her, "Wilson, where shall we go first?"
Wilson was wearing a well-tailored, smart suit that fit appreciatively on his toned body. His good-looking face was like a sculptor's masterpiece.
He answered gently, "I had my friend arrange a house for us. Let's go there first."
She nodded.
Joe Shen was visibly upset to see the grown-ups busy talking and totally ignoring him. He had to target his uncle, since he could not earn his mother's attention.
"Uncle, are you going to kidnap my mom and leave me behind?" Joe Shen complained as he looked at Wilson with an animated expression.
That suddenly reminded Wilson that his little nephew was with them. He quickly turned to look at Joe Shen, with his little cartoon backpack, pouting and angry.
Wilson smiled and rubbed the boy's head. "Yes, I'm going to kidnap her... and you, of course, because you're the most important of all!"
With that, he lifted the boy in his arms and entered the rented car. Cherry could only shake her head in resignation. She really could not tell what Joe Shen was thinking.
As Wilson drove, Joe Shen took the passenger seat, and Cherry sat behind them.
Looking at the landscape passing by, she was overwhelmed with emotions. It had been five years since she had left the city, and now she was finally back. She was delighted to see the change in the city. However, it stung her heart every time she thought of that man. She had been wondering how he was now. Five years had not been long enough for her to forget him. Was he still as indifferent as he used to be?
"Uncle, why do we have to come back here with mommy?" Joe Shen asked naively.
"Because this is where your mommy and I grew up, " Wilson answered as he drove on.
"Really?" Joe Shen turned over his shoulder to look at his mother. "Mommy, did you really grow up here?"
The question brought her attention back to the present. She looked at Joe Shen's handsome face and nodded, smiling. "Yes."
He smiled back at her. "I don't like here, but I would learn to like it, since it's your hometown. We'll settle down here, won't we?"
"Joe, you agree with us living here from now on, don't you?" She asked.
"What are you going to do with me if I disagree?" said Joe Shen, pretending to be disdainful. Then he added carefully, smiling, "I have no objection as long as I'm with you, mommy."
Cherry had initially thought that his son would object to living in the new city, but it turned out he had been tricking her. Little Tyke always left her in great amusement.
Cherry faked a mean look and said, "Joe Shen, you're such a nasty boy!"
He only covered his mouth and chuckled in response.
