Joker took a few steps away before stopping. "Why aren't you leaving yet? Are you still waiting for those two people to come back?"
When he brought it up, Vivian immediately remembered the revolting smiles on their faces and couldn't help shuddering in disgust.
She quickly walked after Joker.
This time, she finally thought of a way that she might be able to reject their so-called relationship. "Excuse me, Joker, you were only kidding just now, right? I mean, we've only just met for the first time today."
"Joker?"
"I'll treat you to dinner some other day, okay?"
"Mr. Joker?"
All the way out, Joker remained silent no matter what Vivian said.
Before they knew it, the two of them had reached the surveillance area of the Howard family.
Joker pulled on his hoodie and walked towards a motorcycle parked by the roadside.
"Go home. I'll contact you again."
Then, he revved up his engine and shot off in the opposite direction.
Vivian stood rooted to the ground in shock as she watched the motorcycle moving farther and farther away. He certainly had to be joking, right?
As soon as he was out of sight, Joker stopped his motorcycle at the roadside and took out his phone before dialling a number.
"Hey, do me a favour and investigate the relationship between Chow and his dad's lovechild."
He hung up right after that and slipped his phone back into his pocket. Then, he put on a pair of sunglasses to hide the emotion in his eyes.
The playful, mischievous look in his eyes was long gone. Instead, it was now replaced with a dark, chilly aura.
Vivian never thought that she would go through such a harrowing episode just for going out on her own because she hadn't wanted Aunt Blaine to worry.
She didn't know if it was a blessing in disguise. The uneasy feeling in her chest from days before had mostly disappeared.
She carefully cleaned up the dirt on her body and then went back with the sketchbook in her hand.
However, as soon as she saw the person in the living room waiting for her, the uneasy feeling suddenly came back to her tenfold.
Celine was sitting on the sofa in the living room, looking as if she'd been waiting for Vivian to return.
Vivian's entire body immediately went stiff and rigid.
She clenched the sketchbook in her hand as she stood at the door, unable to move.
Celine calmly looked at her, her eyes filled with anger, contempt, and disdain. She no longer seemed to be as full of smiles as before.
Vivian had already expected this reaction when they met again, but she didn't think she'd see Celine waiting for her at home as soon as she came back.
Her lips trembled. She wanted to call out Celine's name, but she just couldn't say anything.
She no longer had the right to even address her by her name anymore.
Celine watched Vivian quietly as the girl stood unmoving at the door.
Maybe she would feel slightly better if she knew how uncomfortable Vivian was feeling right now.
After a long while, Celine finally got up from the sofa and walked slowly towards Vivian.
She was just a woman who was a few years older than her, but the aura she exuded as she came closer made Vivian tremble in fear.
She didn't expect Celine to smile suddenly when she walked up to her.
However, it was precisely this forced kind of smile that was the most frightening to Vivian.
"I heard the maid say that you went out sketching. What did you draw? Let me see." Celine reached her hand out and waited expectantly.
When Vivian remembered the contents in her sketchbook, she suddenly paled and tried to hide the book behind her back.
But Celine didn't give her the chance to hide and immediately snatched the book away.
Vivian buried her face in her hands. She was so deathly pale that she looked sick.
Celine opened up the sketchbook and flipped through the pages one by one. All of the sketches were that of Chow, whether it was him standing, sitting, up close, far away, in deep thought, or smiling gently to himself.
...
It was obvious from the sketches that the artist had a deep affection for her subject.
Celine's fingers on the sketchbook tightened until her knuckles gradually turned white.
Finally, she couldn't bear it anymore. She threw the album heavily on the ground and stepped on it several times with her high heels. "Vivian, you've been such a good little sister to me," she spat.
Tears burst out from Vivian's eyes.
Granted, they weren't related by blood, and they had never felt much towards each other.
However, for the past two or so years, Celine had always been treating Vivian as her little sister.
At this moment, she really didn't know how to explain herself.
She was only having a relationship with Chow because she was forced to.
But what difference did this make for Celine?
After all, she was still the third wheel in this relationship.
"I'm sorry." She really had no idea what else she could say apart from this.
She had once hoped that she would have escaped as far as she could before Celine found out.
She wanted to flee from this unspeakable relationship and leave the world that had Chow in it.
But she wasn't prepared for the world to shatter while she was still caught up in it.
The man who started it all had taken everything away from her, including the only bit of barrier that was left between them and Celine. Then, he had turned his back on her and left her with nothing but a scornful gaze.
