Chapter 519
Dinner was usually prepared by the housemaids, but tonight. Granny Rebecca was rolling up her sleeves and taking over the kitchen for Cornelia.
She’s whipping up two of Cornelia’s favorites Eggs Benedict and baked salmon.
Now, Comelia could cook these dishes too, but her culinary skills were nowhere near Granny Rebecca’s league.
Granny Rebecca’s Eggs Benedict were mouth wateringly delicious, with a perfect balance of rich and creamy. It’s the best Cornelia had ever tasted, and just thinking about it got her drooling
And then there’s the baked salmon. Cornelia couldn’t put her finger on what Granny Rebecca’s secret technique was, but it always came out crispier and more flavorful than when she tried to make it.
As Comelia helped out in the kitchen, she couldn’t help but ask, “Granny, are you holding out on me? How come my dishes never taste as good as yours even when I follow the same recipe?”
Granny Rebecca chuckled, “It’s not just about the recipe, dear It’s years of experience Plus, you grew up on my cooking Those flavors are tied to your childhood memories, so no matter when you eat it, it always tastes wonderful. If you like it so much, I can make it for you every day.”
Comelia grinned, “Granny, you don’t have to cook for me Once my cooking skills get better, I’ll be the one cooking for you. You just sit back and enjoy.”
“All right, I’m looking forward to that,” Granny Rebecca said as she started cooking “And remember, once you have your own kids, your cooking will become the best thing they’ve ever tasted”
Just like that, Granny was back on the topic of kids. Before Comelia could even figure out how to respond, Granny continued, “Nelly, once you have a child of your own, you’ll see the world in a whole new light.”
“Granny, I’ve told you, I’m going to wait a few years before having kids, Cornelia protested, pouting. “But when the time comes, I promise to give you a healthy grandson to cuddle
Granny Rebecca’s voice dropped to a whisper, “I just worry I won’t be around to see that day.”
Cornelia’s heart clenched, “Granny, you can’t say things like that. The doctors just told me all your health indicators are good. You’re going to live a long life.”
“Of course, I’ll live a long life. I want to stick around for my Nelly as long as I can.” But even as she said it, Granny Rebecca knew her days are numbered Despite following the doctor’s orders to a T, her health was deteriorating daily. It’s not death she feared, but leaving her Nelly alone in the world.
She knew she’s Cornelia’s main pillar of support. If she were to pass away, Cornelia would be devastated. That’s why she’s so eager for Cornelia to have a child of her own.
She tried to keep her spirits up, followed her treatments, took her medications on time, all in the hopes of living long enough to see Nelly have a child.
Once Cornelia had a child, her attention would have to be divided. Perhaps if she were to pass away then, it wouldn’t hit Cornelia as hard.
